We recommend installing the drain first and confirming that the drain flange sits flush within the sink’s beveled drain opening. Any grit, rough edges, or debris in this area can prevent a proper seal and cause leaks. If leakage occurs, remove the drain and thoroughly clean and smooth the beveled edges before reinstalling. If leaks persist, identify their source: - Threaded connections: If the leak is coming from the drain’s threaded section, apply Teflon tape or pipe dope to the threads and reassemble. - Flange-to-sink connection: If the leak is not at the threads, the sealing method should be chosen based on the sink material. Sealant Recommendations by Sink Material: - Porcelain sinks: Plumber’s putty is the traditional and easiest option for temporary or removable seals. For a permanent, waterproof seal, or if you want to avoid potential staining, use 100% silicone sealant, noting that silicone is more difficult to remove later. - Glass sinks: Use 100% silicone sealant. Silicone provides a strong, durable, waterproof bond and will not stain, whereas plumber’s putty may leave a greasy residue. - Stone sinks: Use 100% silicone sealant only. Oil-based plumber’s putty can stain porous stone surfaces. - Copper sinks: Use silicone (specifically neutral-cure, bronze/copper-colored), which is generally preferred over standard white plumber's putty because it offers a seamless and color-matched seal, preventing the unsightly white ring putty leaves. In general, plumber’s putty is ideal for easy, removable installations, while silicone sealant offers long-term performance for high-moisture applications. When using silicone, apply a continuous bead under the drain flange (not around it), press firmly into place, removing any excess (you don't want a silicone "dam"), and allow the sealant to cure for at least 8–12 hours before using the sink. I agree. That statement is there to cause pause for some think they can but can't. *-) You sound like you know what is what from correct gasket positions to the use of silicone gel and plumbers tape. If you have any question I am just a call or email away. support@novatto.com or 844-404-4242.
Yes, it is designed to fit any standard 1.75-inch drain opening.
Hi Steve, short answer is yes. :-) My PUD-MB-O was designed to fit any standard 1.75-inch drain opening. Please be aware though, this drain WILL ONLY work with a sink that has an overflow. If your sink does not, you will have a nice size puddle under your cabinet. If you have any other questions or thoughts please email me at support@novatto.com
Novatto doesn't make bathtub drains. This is my pop-up drain w/ overflow for a bathroom sink that has an overflow hole and channel. If you need a different bathroom sink drain please reach out to me at support@novatto.com.
Bathroom sinks with overflow, so mostly undermounts and drop-in sinks, which are porcelain.
Hi Jeff, this drain is specifically designed for a bathroom sink with overflow. If you are looking for a pop-up drain without overflow look for Novatto's Pop-up drain in brushed nickel (PUD-BN).
I do have that drain with overflow! Not just in brushed nickle (PUD-BN-O) and chrome (PUD-CH-O) but also in oil rubbed bronze (PUD-ORB-O) and matte black (PUD-MB-O). Just plug the style number into Home Depot's search to find them.
Yes, they have it in a couple of finishes. Brushed Nickel (BN), Chrome (C), Matte Black (MB), Oil-Rubbed Bronze (ORB), GunMetal (GM), and Satin Brass (SB). Though I am not sure if Home Depot chooses to offer all of them.
