No, it works on propane gas only.
Difference between a p-40 and a p-40s
The P40 Furnace (Stock # 2456A) is the current stock number for this model. The older P40S is from the 1980s. There have been many product/part number changes over the last 40 years but the current P40 would be the direct replacement.
