It arrived well packaged. The instructions were easy to follow. I would suggest to take all the pieces out for easier assembly while looking at the instructions. The entire unit is made out of real wood and not cheaply made. The quality and fit of the pieces was perfect. No need to “make things fit” I would suggest an electric screwdriver to speed up the construction process.

This is a nice bookcase which comes up to the chair-rail level. It's a neutral gray color, which coordinates well with multiple types of decor. Almost every home can use more storage. That being said, it's made of MDF, which limits its use in terms of book storage. Often bookcases need to be moved because something has fallen behind them, and this bookcase has four legs, and if full loaded will weigh far more than its legs can support if dragged across a carpeted floor, for example. This item may not hold up well to frequent moves. Also, if fully loaded with books, the pegs that support the shelves are only held in by holes in the MDF, and if one shelf falls, it will wreck the hole for future use. If not fully loaded and used carefully for lightweight items, it serves the need very nicely. Easy to assemble.

This is a great bookcase. I love the gray color and the classy look to it. It is sturdy and well made. It is fairly simple to assemble and comes with great instructions. We use it in our front entry and hallway to welcome guests into our home. It has 3 shelves so it is very flexible to use. It looks great in almost any place including under a window. There is also a nice top area to store and display things on.

A wonderful bookcase, well-constructed with a pleasing simple style of construction from actual wood! The Alaterre under window Bookcase is a little mis-named as it will not fit under any windows that I have or have seen for home use. Standing at 34 inches tall it is even taller than most standard table heights of 28 to 32 inches. It will however fit under most industrial or business height windows as they tend to be above the 34 inches. So, other than the description discrepancy this is a really nice, well designed, aesthetically pleasing and very functional piece of furniture. I like the fact that real wood was used, and the assembled pieces are held together with dowels and screws. The screws use the “pocket” type counter bore attaching system as seen in my photos. IMO, this is a much better system than the stud and cam lock as used on most similar press wood products. The only tool really needed is a #2 Philips screwdriver, but I would advise having a light hammer and a power screwdriver also. The assembly directions are somewhat vague and did lead to extra time in putting the unit together, which was approx. one hour for me (with the power screwdriver). I would advise having two people when assembling the sides as it is a-bit awkward until you get the fasteners in. The assembled unit is very sturdy but still light enough to be picked up and moved by one normal size person. There are two shelves (solid wood) and 12 adjustment holes (2 sets of 6) so plenty of room to adjust and fit in any size book. The shelf holding brackets are used in the upward position (see photo) and are pretty much not seen when looking into the bookcase. Small screws provided are used to attach the shelf to the bracket so that the shelf will not slide out, but I chose not to use them in my case. I have had no issues with the shelf wanting to come out on its own when pulling books out. The working dimensions for the bookcase are 12 inches depth, 31 ½ inches wide and 25 1/2 inches high for the shelves. The outside or space dimensions are 14 inches depth and 36 inches wide with the overall height being 34 inches. The back is held in place by a mitered slot and the “jiggle” is taken up by several plastic wedges (see photo) that work quite well IMO. An anti-tipping strap is provided. Things I did not like, the directions have items identified by number. Unfortunately, all my parts were marked #2 and none were marked #1 or #3. There are no floor savers provided for the feet. The screws identified as letter “D” had the number “6” identification. The Alaterre is a wonderful bookcase, well-constructed, aesthetically pleasing and very functional. Its simple lines allow it to fit in various types of decor and it will give the owner many years of use. Made in Brazil is California 93210 and TSCA Title compliant for formaldehyde. Recommended.

Does not work for three book shelves. No room for tall books.

I am not at all a “put anything together” person!!! I assembled it all myself, the instructions were super easy to follow!! Looks great in my room!

This cute bookcase is my shoecase that adds to the pazz in my closet. Well made and easy to assemble.
