About This Product

Delight in cleaner, refreshing water with the PUR 4-Stage Quick-Connect Reverse Osmosis (RO) Water Filtration System. This 4-stage under sink RO water filter system delivers more purified water through a secondary air gap faucet. Forget bottled water and opt for an environmentally sound water filtration system that is NSF certified to reduce at least 15 unwanted contaminants including lead, TDS and heavy metals. During stage 1, the 5 micron sediment filter reduces rust, sand and dirt. In stage 2, water flows through a 5 micron carbon block filter to further reduce particulates, as well as chlorine. In stage 3, the RO membrane further filters the water to less than 0.0001 micron, thereby reducing chemical contaminants and improving the safety of your drinking water. During the final 4th stage, a secondary carbon block filter removes any residual taste that may come from the storage tank. The no hassle quick-connect design makes replacing the filters easy with a simple flip of a switch and twist of the wrist. For optimum water filtration system maintenance, replace the sediment and carbon block filters every six months and the RO membrane every two years. This water filtration system features a compact, space-saving design that includes everything you need to get started with the for quick and easy installation.

Questions & Answers

Does this system remove fluoride from water?
ByDec 16, 2024
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

Hello Melanie, Yes, reverse osmosis (RO) systems can remove fluoride from water. The effectiveness of fluoride removal depends on the quality of the RO system, including factors like membrane pore size and filtration speed. High-quality reverse osmosis systems are capable of removing a significant amount of fluoride, often reducing it to very low levels. Great product for making RO water for brewing beer (or other uses.) In brewing beer, mineral content of the brewing water is important, so one approach is to remove all minerals using RO, then add them back in the desired concentrations. To brew 5 gallons of beer takes 8-10 gallons of water, so capacity and filtering rate are important. The PUN4RO has a 2 gallon “storage” tank (capacity is not in the specs – I had to ask PUR tech support) and a quoted 23.3 gal per day maximum filtering rate. While I could pour the 2 gal from the storage tank, wait 2 hours, pour another 2 gal, etc., it would take 8 hours or so to get all of the water needed for a brew. A better solution came from a YouTube video, where the person routed the RO water output tubing to a plastic barrel with a float valve mounted at a specific height. So, the RO unit can run continuously for as long as needed, overnight for instance, to produce the desired quantity of water and automatically shut off. One thing to note is that the filtering rate is dependent on your house’s water pressure that, according to the manual, must be in the range of 40-100 psi. Since the PUN4RO, unlike a number of competing products, doesn’t have a booster pump, your house pressure is what pushes the water through the membrane. PUR tech support couldn’t answer my question about flow rate vs pressure, but after installation I measured 1.74 gph at 47 psi house pressure – not far off the spec. The PUN4RO was fairly easy to install, except for a few things. It doesn’t come with a bracket to mount the storage tank (I guess they assumed it would just sit on the floor.) I found an expansion tank strap from HoldRite that is perfect (see photo), but unfortunately not in stock at Home Depot. Another minor annoyance was the lack of suitable mounting hardware for the RO unit itself, which has 2 slotted holes on its frame. I don’t know what they thought the ½” screws included were going to attach to, but I would recommend #10 pan-head screws of a suitable length for your wall type – I used 2”, one into a stud, the other into a drywall anchor. Mounting the unit securely is important for when you need to unscrew or re-screw the filter housings, as some torque is needed. Lastly, the supplied hardware assumes that you are attaching in-line to a ¾” NPT cold water pipe. In my case the water supply had 3/8” poly tubing from the wall supply stop valve, so another trip to Home Depot to get push-to-connect poly parts: a 3/8” tee, a 3/8” valve and a 3/8” to ¼” reducer (see photo). Another difficulty is tightening the nut that secures the faucet to the sink surface. With tubing attached and the fixture in a hard-to-reach location behind the sink, you need small hands and a 9/16” open-end wrench – plus patience. Overall, the product is worth the minor installation annoyances, as it produces pure, mineral-free water with minimal effort. As long as you don’t need more than 2 gallons at a time it is a great product.

This is the second reverse osmosis system we have installed in the house. This second one was put into a large laundry room addition and I just got the system working tonight after the plumber finished the sink install and added the supply valve for me. I have used it to the point that I can make comparisons to the older GE system we have in the kitchen. Installation goes smoothly, even despite a couple compression connections (one at the supply valve and one at the faucet), which I often have leakage issues, but these went well with only minor adjustment (key is to under-tighten, then slowly tighten to stop the fitting from leaking). On my older GE unit, I also have leakage issues at the numerous compression fittings throughout the system, but the PUR system uses a push-in connector that gave me zero issues (not one leaked the first time I turned the system on). The color coding of the piping made everything go easily without confusion. Cutting the piping was easy with a box cutter with a sharp blade -- note the instructions say the cut needs to be very straight so take your time with it. The unit cones with a faucet, but I decided to replace it with a stainless one that matched my faucet. I ran into an issue that the faucet that comes with the PUR unit has an air gap built in (the drain connection feeds through this air gap connection and stops backflow if there are drainage issues). The replacement faucet did not have this air gap built in: I found two options, one was an under-counter air gap, and another was a check valve. I elected to use the check valve, as the air gap unit was more than $30 (the check valve was $16). Both options seemed rather costly but it was worth it for me. In any case, you will need some sort of air gap system if you change out the faucet for something different. The unit seems to make a bit more noise than the older GE unit, but the noise is mostly from my drain so perhaps it is just my installation. One thing I was VERY happy about what the volume of water: the GE unit can barely fill 2-3 glasses of water or a large pet water bowl before running out of water: this unit provides a steady and strong flow of water for several minutes. This alone makes me consider replacing the GE unit (or at least the tank). In general, a very good unit. You may want to get a plumber to install the supply valve, as the valve that comes with the unit is threaded and was not compatible with my copper piping. As I had a plumber installing a sink anyway, he did this for me. The rest of the install is easily done by a moderately skilled DIY-er.

This DI water system is a breeze to install, it comes almost completely assembled so you will only have to connect the water line in, the water line to the drain. And the water line to the storage tank. All connections are color coded for simplicity and colored tubing is supplied to make each connection with, could not be more simple. The only thing different for each installation is the tapping of the cold water line. The cold water shut off valve on my sink was a compression fitting and the tap for the DI system was just 1/2 inch pipe threads so I shut off the water to the house and put the tap between the house plumbing and the shut off valve. the tap has a shut off on it so it works out fine. Every connection from there on is supplied. It is a nice looking compact system that should last for years. The water tastes better and it is mineral free so I use it in the coffee maker so it will never have to be de-limed anymore.

I am extremely pleased with my new PUR 4-stage reverse osmosis water filtration system. I chose to install the system in my daughters bathroom because we fill up humidifiers every night and they are big water drinkers at night. I faced some challenges installing the unit because it was installed in a very shallow vanity. This unit is designed for a kitchen base cabinet but it works great for a bathroom as well, just be prepared to get creative get the unit to fit. The kit comes with everything you need aside from a hole saw bit for you counter. The faucet that comes with it is also very nice. I wish the water pressure was a bit stronger but it is more than sufficient for filling a glass of water.

I'm very happy with this RO system now that it is installed. It comes with a separate faucet, but it works well with a single hole faucet set-up with a few modifications. We've had a eye out for an under the sink RO system for a while now. Although this system comes with a faucet, we decided not to drill through our granite countertop to install it. Instead, we purchased a 3-in-1 faucet designed to work with RO systems like this. PROs: - This is a bulky system but I was surprised that it didn't really take up that much space once everything was mounted to the side of the cupboard and tucked away. - The push connectors work seamlessly. No leaks whatsoever. - The whole system feels very sturdy and well constructed. CONs: - The RO inlet valve that was provided with this system did not work at all with our sink set up. I went to 3 different stores (including a specialty plumbing store) to try and find a reducer/adapter that would allow me to connect the valve to a standard 3/8" supply line but no one had anything like it. I ended up ordering a 3/8 to 3/8 valve online that worked perfectly and allowed me to hook the system up. I don't know why this wouldn't be the standard-issue valve provided. - I did see a picture of another review that seemed to show a black adapter that came with the valve. It is possible that this just was missing from my kit. I understand that every specific sink set-up is going to be different, but I don't get why the standard valve size would be anything other than the standard 3/8" supply-line size. Overall, installation wasn't so bad, the biggest problem being the valve that was either missing or didn't work with out set up (I still don't know). Instructions say to let it the run through two tank cycles before using. It takes about 2 hours for the tank to fill up. Overall, I'm happy with the function of this filter system. The valve issue was annoying, but hard to say if it was because of my current plumbing or a missing piece. Either way, I would definitely recommend this product if you are looking for an under-the-sink RO system.

The PUR 4-stage universal reverse osmosis water filtration system will be the perfect solution to our issues with well water. Not only is the well water hard requiring us to have a water softener, tests show that it has a number of contaminants. We will finally have safe drinking water from the faucet included in the kit. In fact, the kit contains everything you need for installation. We have called our plumber to install the system but their scheduling is delayed due to COVID. My husband doesn't like to tackle any project that requires plumbing and we need a special tool to drill a hole in our quartz countertop for the faucet. The system does require space in the cabinet under the sink so I'll have to reorganize my storage. The bracket mounts will definitely help preserve space. In addition to copper, chlorine and fluoride, the system should reduce lead by almost 97%.

Does exactly what it says it does. Water is taste free. The kit contains all the parts you will need. There is only one hitch that you may have to come up with a work around. It does come with a separate spigot that will need a hole in the counter. Stone counters can be difficult for the DIY person to drill a hole into. Other than that the plumbing is basic. They provide an inlet and outgo part to rig into the pipes. I'm very pleased with this unit. I prefer the type of filters it uses for heavy particles. Very nicely done.

The area that I live in is well known for hard water and I have already installed a water softener for the entire house I picked up this reverse osmosis for underneath my kitchen sink to provide pure water for drinking and cooking purposes. I have also plumbed in the icemakers as well to so I get the clean water for that as well. Thing I like about the most about this kid is it uses universal filter so you should be able to find them at most places

I had one of these that last for 16 years before the tank stop inflating. Pur makes one of the best drinking water systems you can buy and they last a long time. This will be my second one to install under the sink. We use it for drinking water and cooking. Since the water is so clean it taste great. The instructions are simple to follow and it comes with everything you need to tap into your water line. It does not take up a lot of space if you mount the filters on the inter wall of the cabinet. The filters are easy to install and change out and the tool comes with the water filter. The easy connects make it so simple to install. The water outlet that you install on the top above THE sink is super nice and is silver to match my faucets. Pur also sells different colors if you need a matching outlet for your sink. Why I chose this water filter is because the filters are cheap to buy every 6 months at around 35 bucks when others are around 100 bucks every 6 months. Just an over all excellent water filter system to have in my home
