No - this is not an application for this product
I do know many that have done this in the past, but if the other manufacturer has modified or changed the product it may not. We would suggest doing a small test area first.
Maryann, Floor Application :A minimum of three coats is required. Allow floors to dry 24hours before subjecting to light foot traffic; 3-5 days before moderate (normal) traffic or moving furniture. To avoid marring floor, lift and place furniture. One week is required before maximum hardness is achieved. Do not cover floors with rugs before one week has elapsed. Janis - Products are no longer tested for direct food contact. It would be suggested to to a small test area over the paint you have and do an adhesion test before proceeding on the entire project. ZAR water-based polyurethane is design for use on wood surfaces - we do not test compatibility over paints.
Bendy - Thank you for the great question. You do not need to sand in between coats if you are within the recoat time period (4-6 hours or so) but sanding in between coats will provide a much smoother feel and appearance. Lightly sand with a fine grit (220 or finer) or use a synthetic steel wool pad (do not use steel wool with water-based polyurethanes) and remove all sanding dust prior to applying your next coat of ZAR® Crystal Clear.
Krobi - Thank you for your question. While we do not mention using this product over existing paint, many users have done so. The surface should be clean, dry and low sheen. I suggest doing a small test area and perform an adhesion test before moving forward with the project. Thanks for considering ZAR® Polyurethane for your project!
Marty - Thank you for the question. Yes, this product can be used with wood stains. It can used over multiple brands of stain (we always suggest using ZAR® Stain). A word of caution when using Minwax, they have certain colors that they do not recommend using a water-based polyurethane over - check the label for details. You will find ZAR® Crystal Clear Polyurethane to be a hard and scratch resistant finish that also be used on wood floors.
