1/4 in. and 3/8 in. Drive 6-Point Standard SAE/Metric Mechanics Tool Set with Case (150-Piece)

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] When I received this kit I noticed right away that there is a design flaw in the case. The latches on top are under a fixed handle, so it's really hard to open them (see photo). Additionally, one of the latches popped off immediately, though it was easy to reattached. I do appreciate that you can close the box with the latches folded under the lid. There is a recessed area for them to tuck into, making it easy to have tools accessible while at the job site while keeping the case partially closed. Upon opening the carrying case, I noticed that the 5mm slotted bit was completely missing, right off the bat. And there was a white crust on one of the hex keys. With a closer look I discovered that most of the nut driver bits were in the wrong spot. Thankfully they are stamped with their correct size and it was easy to rearrange them correctly. I appreciate the broad range of Torx bits, which included T5, T7, T8, T10, T15, T20, T25, T27, T30, and T40. I was disappointed to see that the square bits did not include S0, which I use in my fine woodworking, only S1, S2 and S3. The magnetic bit driver is handy and the included bits worked great with it. The very slight magnet to it helped keep them in place. I found the handle to be uncomfortably large for my hands. I have small hands, and the handles on the two included screwdrivers were not nearly as large as the bit driver's, for unclear reasons. The adjustable wrench has one shiny, smooth face and one roughly machined face, which shows a lack of attention to detail. But the tool works fine and adjusts easily. The ratcheting handles work great and the release button for sockets was smooth. Having so many extension bars gives plenty of options for range. The diagonal and long nose pliers were perfectly acceptable, nothing special, and the fixed combination wrenches were solid. The sockets all were fine, as were the nut driver bits. I appreciate the hex keys coming in so many sizes. Overall this is a decent kit that would make a good starter gift for someone who needs a wide range of adequate tools. I was disappointed by the lack of attention to detail, but overall it's compact with a broad range.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I needed a set of tools that I could 'grab and go' for quick repairs and servicing of items. Sometimes, you just can't drag your main toolbox or you just don't want the hassle of doing it. This set is perfect for when I need to throw it in my truck or I need tools in the backyard. I've only been using them about a month or so. Thus far they are holding up well. No issues with them. I've been rebuilding a 1960s Honda motorcycle and have put the sockets, ratchets, and wrenches through their paces. The Pros: The case is thin and securely holds all the tools. No sockets being toss around or flung out when you open the case. All the sockets are 6 Point so even if I have a tough bolt to loosen I don't have to worry about stripping it. The finish is solid on all the sockets and wrenches. The combination wrenches and ratchets have a nice feel my hand. The Mehs: I would have liked to see the metric wrenches go up to 18mm and the standard go up to 3/4". Also, I wish the sockets had larger laser etched labels - they are much easier to read. I realize it's only a 150 piece set but that's what I would have liked to see. These don't take away from the set but would have made it much better IMO. The Cons: I have literally dozens of allen wrench sets. The ones include as serviceable but nothing special. Likewise, I rarely, if ever, use an adjustable wrench. Again, for the price point of this 150 piece set - I can live with them.

Has pliers, real screwdrivers as well as a 1/4” drive handle, wrenches, and sockets in 1/4” and 3/8” drive from like 3mm to 25mm and equivalent inch sizes. A few pieces fell out of the packaging during delivery but that’s no surprise with these blow molded cases. I love having such a large set handy in the truck so I don’t have to hope my usual little set has what I need or go to the shed/house to find a size. Will have to see how the larger sizes stand up to 3/8” when I usually have a 1/2” drive but I haven’t tested that aspect yet

Great product for everyday use around the house, and also great for routine vehicle maintenance. No more spending hours searching the garage for the correct tool, they’re all in one convenient spot, and very portable.

I was looking forward to getting this set of tools from Crescent. I own their Lineman’s, Diagonal, and K9 V-Jaw pliers that I use all the time. So, I was looking for the same brand experience when selecting their 180-piece Professional tool set. I’ll start with the items/features I liked best. Their sockets, combination wrenches, and two ratchets are well made. They have a solid feel and the Chrome plating is consistent over all the tools. The sockets are plated on the inside to help with clean up after using on oily, greasy projects. The rachets have a nice release button that holds the sockets securely. The socket walls are not to thin and should last a long time. I would be nice if the extension bars were locking extension bars like the other Apex Tool brand. This would be a great feature when working around an engine in tight spaces. With so many sockets why did crescent only include two rachets? (1/4” and 3/8” drives) This set needs a 1/2" rachet and 1/2” drive sockets for the larger diameter sockets. The Crescent 170-piece tool set has 3 rachets? The combination wrenches are great, they just need to add 3 more wrenches to this set. I would like to see a 1/4-inch, 9mm and 11mm wrenches added to this set. The set comes with Crescent 6” Diagonal Pliers, 6” Long Nose Pliers, and a 6” Adjustable Wrench. They are good tools but this is a “Professional” tool set. If you working with a bolt that is 3/4” at both ends and you can’t fit a rachet and socket over one end, you’ll need to find another combination wrench or adjustable wrench. I would replace the three tools with Crescent’s Adjustable Black Oxide Cushion Grip Wrenches in 6”, 8”, and 10” sizes? (Maybe 2 adjustable wrenches and a K9 V-jaw Pliers) The magnetic bit driver with 4 sleeves of bits is handy when you are trying to determine fastener sizes. The bit driver is magnetic but not the individual bits. This tool needs it own case! It would be nice to pick up a small case that contains the driver and bits. There are four screwdrivers included in this set. I would consider them more “General” purpose screwdrivers. The handles are made from an orange plastic that has a very smooth surface. (See Image of Bit Driver handle) There is a textured black material built into the handles, but there isn’t much of it and it isn’t as “Sticky/Grippy” as I would like. There is a hole built into the handles for using another screwdriver for increased torque, but I would have a hard time trying to get a difficult screw in or out with these handles. The two Hex Key sets are just to small. I have a ball end set that I have been using for years because the key handles are longer. I included a comparison image below. I don’t know how often most people use the Hex sets in general. But maybe there aren’t included in this set going forward? Lastly, the storage case! It is too big when opened and the sockets are hard to remove. I found myself using the slotted screwdriver to pry the sockets out of the case. The case measures 31.5” wide when opened. (See image below) If you occasionally work on a few projects around the house and don’t have a tool box or storage chest, you might keep the case. I am going to remove all the tools from this case. I have been looking for socket storage trays and small individual cases because I am going to break up the sockets by drive size. I can’t image hauling this case around. Instead of this very large molded plastic case, maybe Crescent can use one of their Tradesman Closed Top or 20” Contractor tool bag with plastic storage cases for sockets and matching ratchets. (Similar to a fishing tackle bag with removable plastic storage cases) They would have room for the extras included with the tool sets! Overall, I am recommending this tool set because the pieces that make up this set are very good tools. The only items I wouldn’t recommend are the Hex Key sets and the enormous plastic storage/carrying case.

Super quality tool set by Crescent. The Crescent tool set includes forty 1/4 inch drive tools, forty-six 3/8 inch drive tools, and ninety-four specialty tools. All 180 tools are set inside a tough and rugged tool case that latches at four points. It will not pop open unexpectedly. The latches are tricky to open and deal with when you close the set, but that’s worth it to keep this heavy set closed and the many pieces altogether. The tools are made of chrome alloy and steel. This is a very nice tool set by Crescent. It contains 180 pieces of both SAE and Metric. The ratchets, wrenches and sockets are all contained in a storage case. The case is marked to show you where each piece fits in place. The tools lock in the case and did not come lose while carrying. Made from Chrome alloy steel. Crescent is known for quality tools and these tools are no exception. I feel the blow mold storage case has many great features, but could use some improvement. The latches to open the case are located in an awkward position. It could be a tight fit for larger hands. I'm happy we chose Crescent. This is a great set to add to your tool collection. It's well worth the money.
