I was in the market for some new radios as my old ones (from a different manufacturer) no longer held a charge and replacement batteries were quite expensive. I’ve heard Motorola radios have a great reputation and I decided to give them a try. This kit came with 2 compact radios, smaller and lighter then my old ones, 2 rechargeable batteries, 2 removable belt clips, and an ac charger that charges both radios at the same time. I charged up the batteries and tried these out on a recent road trip where I was traveling with another vehicle. These were great to communicate back and forth and the batteries lasted the full 6 hour trip with some pretty heavy use. The sound quality was great with no static and the range was acceptable with no loss of communication in the half mile distance we tried. Overall these were great radios for my purposes and I’m very happy with them.

These Walkie Talkie/2 Way Radios are essential for hikers, campers, active families or even to be used in a work environment. These radios have a NOAA Weather Band Radio which is excellent for outdoor activities. The Motorola TalkAbouts offer so much in a small package such especially in channel security with ease of use. With 22 channels and 121 sub channels to lock into you can res assure you can select a channel that won't have mass chatter on it. If you have multiple devices pairing the devices is easy with one button synchronization locking in the same channel on all devices. It has cool features like different call tones that you can select. Battery life varies, with NiMH 800 mAH (included) - it can last up to 18 hours but you can get longer up to 30 hrs with 3 AA Alkaline Batteries. Its range is decent about 1-3 miles on average, it says up to 20 but that would have to be optimal conditions which in real life never happens. These radios are tough, drop and weather resistant They come with a USB charging wire. They also have a port for earpiece if needed.

This pair of blue-colored Motorola “Talkabout” two-way handheld radios are excellent for use in hiking, just keeping in touch with other group members in any other outdoor setting, or even on the jobsite with workers in different locations. I have used these for tower work, so the person on the tower can communicate with the ground crew. It has a bottom loop where you can attach your own lanyard so it does not fall out of reach. It is rated at up to one mile in a neighborhood, up to six miles on the water, and 25 miles mountain to valley. It even has the NOAA weather frequencies built-in as channel 1 (see picture) so you can always hear the current forecast and adjust your plans, if needed. I was impressed that you have the choice of using the supplied nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries with a supplied charger or three regular AA batteries. These NiMH batteries can be charged at any time (see picture) and do not hold a memory like the old rechargeable batteries. This is really a great advance in these Family Radio Service (FRS) radios. Using the easy to follow 28-page manual (see picture), you can program the radios to only hear your fellow radio user with the subaudible tone function so the squelch does not break open until your other programmed radio calls you. There is also a call function to alert the other radio in the pair (or group for more than two radios) that you want to get their attention. You can even use these with your own earplugs (see picture) for noisy locations. Many FRS radios do not even have that feature! I highly recommend these radios as a well-designed communications solution which will work well when cell service is not available or convenient.

There is a lot of good with this 2 pack ‘Talkabout’ from Motorola. My observations: • Out of the box charging took about 8 hours. I do like how the charger will charge both units at the same time. • Battery life has been good. I’m still at ‘full’ charge after many hours of usage and testing. • These are easy to use. Only 6 buttons to worry about and everything is laid out plainly and easy to set up and change the settings. • Privacy is good with 22 channels and 121 privacy codes for each channel. • The weather alerts are nice and immediately provided my local weather out of the box. • The battery is NiMH. This is not my favorite battery but at this price point it’s tough to complain about NiMH. A nice plus though is that you can place 3 AA batteries in each unit once the NiMH’s die or you need a quick replacement. • I found the panel easy to see and read. The green backlight is also helpful. • I was also satisfied with vocal clarity. No issues at all for me. Very clear. • This also has iVOX/VOX which is great for hands free if you need something like that. • Distance/Range: In our neighborhood with lots houses and trees I could get about .75 miles before I lost connection to the other unit. For neighborhoods, this is rated for up to one mile so I found .75 miles (my test) to be acceptable. If you have no obstacles, then should expect several miles of connection. If you have an emergency kit or you like to keep in touch at an amusement park, hiking, sporting event, weather event, etc. these could really come in handy. There have been several times at football games my cell phone will not connect because the towers get overloaded, so this is a good option. I recommend. This Motorola Talkabout set met my expectations and the price point is fair.

I am very happy with the MOTOROLA SOLUTIONS TALKABOUT T270 RECHARGEABLE 2-WAY RADIO IN BLACK WITH BLUE. I’ve always had an affinity for 2 way radios. They remind me of beach vacations and playing in the neighborhood. But they are also very practical for hiking trips or ski trips, our family uses them to keep in touch when there is a lot going on. For those trips when you will be out of cell phone range or driving in a caravan these two way radios make it fun and easy to stay connected. These have great features as well like auto scan and weather.

This pack of 2 FMRS radios is lightweight, compact and easy to use, but the power is too low to reach beyond 1/4 mile unless you are on flat ground with no trees or buildings between you and the other person using the radio. They are, however fine around a homestead where distance is short or as other reviewers have noted, when communicating with someone in a car near you, such as when two people are moving & driving two vehicles. Other than that, these radios are disappointing in their performance. There is no way that these radios would broadcast and receive up to 25 miles unless you were in flat open ground, but even then with the low power of 2 watts, anything over 1/4 mile in normal urban situations is not realistic. While it does have a NOAA weather radio option, it is difficult to hear the NOAA weather broadcast because the signal is so weak. One good thing about them is that they come with Ni metal hydride rechargeable batteries which charge through a micro USB plug on the right side of the radio. These radios are covered by a 2 year warranty, have a belt clip and a loop end at the bottom to attach lanyard.

Motorola's Talkabout™ T270 2 way radios have become a necessity around the property. The ease of use, the features and the quality of the sound makes these walkie-talkies even better. I'd like to mention some of the best features. The charger with it's "Y" cable is able to charge both walkies at once. No need for 2 chargers! Also you can charge them with any micro USB charger at home or in the car. Battery life is exceptional, I can go 3 to 4 days with moderate use before needing to charge. One more bonus regarding the batteries. You can use regular AA batteries! The T270 also is equipped with a weather alert radio. Nice to have living in Oklahoma and sometimes being in the middle of nowhere with no cell signal. As far as range I could not test the 25 mile claim. But I was able to test at 2 different locations. The first was in my hometown and I was able to transmit and receive up to 3 miles from downtown to my home. For the second test I went out to a friends property. It is 27+ acres, hilly and wooded. I went to the property line on the east my buddy went to the property line on the west. The radios were crystal clear. There are 22 available channels so cross-talk is just about impossible. They feel good in your hand and can be slipped onto your belt. The radios are backlit for night use. They also have a built in loop to tie off to backpacks, etc. The set includes some ID stickers to apply to the bottom loop. Motorola has provided a 2 year warranty. We have used the T270's on car trips and when shopping. A lot easier than having to dial the cell. Just push to talk. I wanted to mention the alert feature. You can chose between the dozen or so alert tones to get the attention of the other person. I wholeheartedly recommend these Motorola Talkabout™ radios!

Convenient portable 2-way radios useful for short-range communication, especially in locations wi...
Convenient portable 2-way radios useful for short-range communication, especially in locations without cell phone service. Uses low-power license-free FRS (Family Radio Service) frequencies. Advertised range limit is 25 miles from a mountain top to a valley?! A more realistic maximum is one mile depending on terrain and interference. FRS radios are for short-range use. Package includes 2 radios, 2 NiMH rechargeable battery packs, 1 charger with 2 USB-C connectors, ID stickers. NiMH battery packs can be recharged in place to avoid battery swapping. Radios can also be powered by AA batteries; rechargeable versions are widely available. Tool-free removal of battery covers, is convenient for swapping batteries. Operates on 22 FRS channels + 121 privacy codes. Normal operation is by holding a press-to-talk button while speaking and releasing button while listening. Hands-free VOX (voice operated transmission) is also provided. The radios receive NOAA weather alerts, helpful on outdoor treks. Cases do not have rubberized drop protection. Consider improvising wrist cords to avoid dropping. My test time is too short to assess reliability. Warranty is 24 months on radios, 90 days on batteries. Made in China.

These MOTOROLA SOLUTIONS TALKABOUT T270 RECHARGEABLE 2-WAY RADIO IN BLACK WITH BLUE (2-PACK) are very lightweight and easy to hold. They have 22 total channels and 121 privacy codes so you can get a clear and private connection. The pairing button makes connecting to your group easy for everyone and you can connect from "up to 25 miles (mountain to valley), 6 miles (open water) and 1 mile (neighborhood) away." We only tried our neighborhood and it was very clear at 1 1/4 miles apart, and during a hike in the woods where they were also clear at 2 miles - haven't tried further distances yet. Some of the features are great like the backlit display window, so you can see what your doing even in low light, no light or bright sun. We will be using these camping in 2 weeks and feel confident that they will work great for us.

These walkies are nicely sized and very light weight. They are replacements for a pair we bought about 15yrs ago that finally shot craps. They aren’t industrial grade but are fine for occasional use. Sound quality is good. The belt clip is not all that sturdy but is easily removable by its clip. We’ll be simply slipping it in our pocket anyway so not a deal breaker. Comes with and takes 3-AA rechargeable a and charging cable allows for both to be charged simultaneously - nice! Overall a good replacement.
