Questions & Answers

Is this gas or propane

Answer This Question

Do I need to install the included regulator if our propane line already has a regulator out by the bulk propane tank?
ByDec 10, 2024
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

Yes, you should still install the included regulator even if you have a bulk propane tank with a regulator. The regulator included with the cooktop is designed to ensure the correct gas pressure for the appliance itself. The bulk tank regulator controls the pressure for the entire system, but the appliance regulator fine-tunes it for optimal and safe performance of the cooktop.

Does this unit have to be recessed or can it be placed on the counter? Canit be used with a whole house lpg qas system vice a propane tank?

Answer This Question

Recessed or Countertop Placement? The 12-inch recessed gas cooktop with 2 sealed burners offers you some flexibility in terms of installation: Recessed Installation: As the name suggests, this cooktop can be recessed into your countertop, creating a sleek and seamless look. This is the typical way it's designed to be installed. Countertop Placement: While designed for recessed installation, some users choose to place this cooktop directly on the counter on a heat-resistant surface. However, it's important to consider these points for countertop placement: Manufacturer's Instructions: Always consult the manufacturer's instructions to ensure countertop placement is permitted for this specific model. Ventilation: Since the cooktop won't be vented downwards like in a recessed installation, you'll need proper ventilation above the cooktop to remove heat and fumes. A range hood is highly recommended. Whole-House LPG System Compatibility Yes, you can definitely use a whole-house LPG gas system with this cooktop instead of a propane tank, provided a few key conditions are met: Qualified Technician: The conversion to a whole-house LPG system should be performed by a licensed gas fitter or plumber to ensure proper installation and safety. Gas Pressure Compatibility: The technician will need to verify that your whole-house LPG system's gas pressure is compatible with the cooktop's requirements. Different appliances have specific gas pressure requirements for optimal performance.

If the electric is out, can it be lit with a lighter or match?
    ByJun 14, 2024
    1 Answer |
    Answer This Question

Yes, definitely! This 12-inch gas cooktop is designed to work independently of electricity. In case of a power outage, you can easily light it with a lighter or a match. Here's how: Locate the knobs: These knobs control the gas flow to each burner. Turn a knob slightly: As you turn the knob, you'll usually hear a clicking sound. This is the igniter trying to spark the gas (which won't work without electricity). Hold a lighter or match near the burner: While holding the knob slightly turned, bring the flame from your lighter or match near the burner opening. You should see the burner ignite. Adjust the flame: Once lit, you can adjust the flame size by turning the knob further for higher heat or back for lower heat. This manual ignition feature is a major advantage of gas cooktops during power outages. Make sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for safe operation of the gas cooktop, especially when using a lighter or match for ignition. By having this gas cooktop, you can still prepare hot meals even when the electricity goes out.

              Looks good and works great
I got this GASLAND Chef 12 in. NG/LPG Convertible Gas Cooktop in Stainless Steel with 2 Burner with Thermocouple Protection to finally replace the camping stove in our camping trailer. One of the reasons I decided on this cooktop was that it already comes with all needed parts to convert it to propane instead of natural gas. It needs a 120VAC connection to operate the safety valves and ignition. I'll probably open it up and see if I can convert it to 12VDC or if I need to get a small inverter.

Regulator failed on install I just picked up one locally....
Regulator failed on install I just picked up one locally. Burners are a pain to adjust but once set function well. Using two normal sized pans on it can be a struggle as the burner spacing makes it hard to ctr both on flame one or both have to be off center. smaller pans dont set well on grate due to spacing/design used.

We've only used this cook top a few times, but it works well for our purposes in a garage apartment. The cook top itself looks nice and appears to be made well enough for the price point. Being alerted by previous reviewers, I carefully looked over the unit and the conversion pieces for propane. Conversion to propane was relatively easy. The burner orifices looked identical to me, but there is a size number engraved on each. Be sure to use the correct one for each burner. The only installation issue encountered was that the regulator installation instructions are flat out wrong. Hopefully, they'll be corrected in the future. Thanks to an alert by an earlier reviewer, I was able to work through it in minimum time. If the basic instructions are followed, they have you install the regulator directly to the input fitting. They show installing an elbow after the regulator. Two problems with that. One, the top won't fit into the counter top cutout (tip-off number one). Second, the regulator won't fit tightly and it would cause a huge gas leak. So, as forewarned, the elbow is first connected to the cook top input pipe. Don't forget the Teflon tape and gasket. That'll make a gastight seal. Then, the regulator (modify for propane if necessary) is connected to the elbow. The source gas line hookup follows. While our propane is from a bulk tank and pressure is reduced to about .5 psi (11 inches water column), the manufacturer recommended using the Gasland supplied regulator as well. Operation of the cook top has been satisfactory, and we haven't experienced some of the low output problems described by a few other reviewers. I may have to tweak the burner adjustments at some point, but so far the control knobs regulate the heat okay for our purposes. I deducted a star because of the grossly incorrect regulator installation instructions.
