Attractive and versatile lamp

The Cattleya lamp is very versatile. It works both as a hanging lamp or as a desk lamp, as the base is sturdy enough to allow it to stand upright on a desk or table. The flat black finish blends in with nearly any decorating scheme, and the wicker-look shade adds a lively touch. It also softens the lamp light and helps to diffuse the light throughout the room. The lamp is compact, so it fits well in a small room such as a home office, work room or dormitory. The light is constructed either to be hard-wired into the electrical circuitry or to be plugged in. To hard-wire, you will need a junction box and tools such as a wire stripper and screw driver. The unit comes with electrical wire nuts. I opted to hang the light on the wall. The instructions that were included for this were pretty sketchy and I needed to supply appropriate wood screws. Once I had the right hardware, the process was very simple. The base plate is connected to the unit with two screws that are capped on the front of the lamp with decorative caps. I unscrewed the caps, removed the base plate and then used an electric screwdriver to attach the plate to the wall. I then reattached the lamp to the base plate. There is a ring on the socket area that also unscrews; this is what attaches the shade to the lamp. Once the light was in place, I was able to position it using the three keys on the side of the lamp. These loosen to allow the arm to be positioned vertically, and they are tightened by hand. Once the lamp was in place, I put in a standard LED light bulb, plugged the unit into the wall and turned it on. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of light it cast and that the it was able to light a fairly wide area.

Hangs crooked

I was looking for a wall lamp to hang over a small table in the bedroom to highlight the items on top of it. I thought this might be a nice touch to the country decor. It includes everything necessary to hang it. It can be used either by plugging directly into an outlet or hardwiring it to an existing wall junction box. Since I didn’t already have a junction box in the location, I opted to go with the direct plug-in approach. To hang it on the wall I still used the round mounting ring that I attached to the wall using anchors since there was no stud to attach it to. I simply slid the lamp base onto the two posts sticking out from the mounting plate and secured it with the black round knobs provided. Immediately after hanging it, when I stood back to take a look at it I noticed that the arm that holds the socket and the lampshade hung way off to the right. I tried numerous ways to adjust it but nothing seemed to work. This may not be an issue for a lot of people but my OCD just wouldn’t be able to handle this looking crooked. During one of the attempts to adjust the arm to see if I could get it to hang straight down, I noticed that the braided insulation covering the wires was already frayed. This was very concerning to me so I didn’t bother installing a bulb or even plugging it in. I decided that between that and the fact that it doesn’t hang straight, I was not going to be able to use this lamp.

Very stylish

I really like the look of this lamp. The finish is flawless. The adjustable arms allow for any angle you may want. The shade is a nice sturdy rattan that gives the lamp a tropical or even a rustic appearance. The fixture itself was super easy to install. The backplate screws into the wall using screws (included) and hollow wall anchors (NOT included). The fixture then slides onto to the backplate and is held in place with 2 round nuts. I did not hardwire mine. I opted to plug it into a wall outlet.

Looks Great Works Great

Cattleya Swing Arm Wall Lamp has added a great look to my study. I am an avid reader and spend time in my study recliner reading books. I have a lamp on an end table but it doesn't put off much light. I do not like reading with a ceiling light on, so this light is perfect. I mounted it on the wall behind my chair. The vague instructions gave only an option of cutting the sheet rock for a remodel box to mount it to. I simply took the mounting plate and attached it to the wall. I was able to place one screw in a stud and used an anchor for the other. It mounted perfect and is secure on the wall. It is a corded lamp and is simple to use. Plug it in and use the on off switch to control it. It looks great on the wall and is adjustable in 3 places on the arm. This allows you to get just the right angle you are looking for. The shade is a wicker type that is well constructed and thick. The way that I have this light positioned, it puts off the perfect amount of light for reading. It is a must have for those needing a light to read by in a study, above a bed headboard, etc.
