Thank you for your recent inquiry with the Home Depot. Please follow the care and use guidelines provided. You may find the Installation and Care guides on the product page under "Product Overview" on the right side under " Additional Resources" We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future.
Hello Richard, Thank you for your recent inquiry with The Home Depot. The installation guide specifies that the trench should only be as wide as necessary to compact backfill around the pipe, and not wider. A wider trench increases the soil load on the pipe. The minimum width should be the greater of either the pipe's outside diameter plus 16 inches, or the pipe's outside diameter times 1.25, plus 12 inches. Since this is a 4-inch pipe, that means the minimum trench width is 17 inches (4" * 1.25 + 12"). We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future.
