As indicated on the product package label and supporting product literature for: "Allow to dry thoroughly before sanding or finishing. Dries in as little as 15 minutes for shallow, low volume fills and 2-24 hours in larger volume fills ¼” deep and over. Sand with medium sandpaper (100 grit). For larger and deeper repairs, apply two or more thin layers, allowing wood filler to dry between applications. Overfill to allow for settling and sanding. Thank you for posting your inquiry. Because there is no industry color standard for "golden oak" (or other wood tones/shades), colors are best selected visually. When factory tinted colors do not offer an accurate color match to your needs, stain/colorants/pigments can be added to the wood filler to create custom colors. This can also be done by combining/blending different colors of Plastic Wood until the desired color is achieved. As indicated on the product package label and supporting product literature: "Filler Finishing/Staining Guidance: 1. Surface to be filled must be clean, dry and unglazed for best adhesion. Wood, wood filler and air temperature should be 40F. or above. 2. Match wood filler color to finished wood. Test wood filler, stain and finish combination on a small area first to ensure desired stain color. 3. If wood is to be stained, stain before filling with wood filler. Then use stain to develop desired final finish. Please follow stain manufacturer’s instructions for application." Should you have any questions or require further assistance, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.
colors are not perfect you better off mixing your own.
I have used golden oak filler for years and it has been true to color in most applications. Especially if you use the golden oak stain
I asked this question, and one answer ignored the fact that I was planning to finish this oak bureau with clear shellac. The other answer appears to be from an industry person, and I found it more helpful. The bottom line is, I hate using wood filler, it just never, EVER looks right, so I am very judicious in my use of it. I will not fill huge hole with it, just hairline cracks.

Thank you for posting your inquiry. DAP Plastic Wood Solvent Professional Wood Filler can be used for minor cosmetic repairs on wood flooring. Applications such as these should be protected with a surface coating, such as a high-quality polyurethane, that is "traffic rated" for flooring applications. As with any hard setting wood repair filler, it should not be applied to joints, seams or other areas prone to movement.
It depends on the size of the hole. If the hole is bigger than (say) 1/4", make a plug using a plug cutter. If necessary, make the hole slightly bigger. Stick the plug in with Titebond. If you do use wood filler, remember that it shrinks as it dries. Be ready to use two or three applications.
