Hi Weiss, this is Bekah from Simpson Strong-Tie. The HDG version is what we would recommend as a minimum unless your application needs Stainless Steel. As for the sizes; the 66 version is for nominal 6x and engineered 5 1/4" lumber there for would be the right size. What size drill bit do I use for the bolts? Any input would be appreciated.
Hi Oscar, this is Colin from Simpson Strong-Tie. The CC66HDG requires 5/8" diameter bolts. You'll be safe with a 11/16" diameter bit. The bolt holes shall be a minimum of 1/32" to a maximum of 1/16" larger than the bolt diameter per the NDS. Does this product come black powered coated? If not, can I spray painted black?
Hi Oscar, this is McKenzie from Simpson Strong-tie. We can special make the column cap in black powder coat; you'd have to get with your local home depot to get this process started.
