What does the 2 3/4 door back set mean and where is this measured?
Hello Gary, and thank you for your inquiry regarding this item from Prime-Line Products. The "backset" refers to how far back the large knob holes are punched into the wrap-around door protector. This is measured from the edge of the door, back to the center of the large holes to where the door knob will insert. The holes on the door protector included with this item have a backset of 2-3/4 inches... in other words, the door knobs will set back from the edge of the door 2-3/4 inches when measuring from the edge of the door to the center of the large holes. The Defender Security U 9550 Brass Lock and Door Reinforcer assists in preventing forced entry by reinforcing the weak spot of your door. It can be used to reinforce and repair metal, fiberglass and wood doors. Constructed of solid brass, the lock reinforcer plate comes in a brass finish. All the necessary mounting hardware is included for a quick and easy installation. The lock reinforcement plate is pre-punched for mounting. The reinforcer is designed for snug fit on a 1-3/4 inch thick doors that have mortise or drive-in latches. Measuring 4-5/16 inch wide by 9 inch tall, the reinforcement plate accommodates key-in knob locksets on doors that have 2-1/8 inch bore sizes, with a backset of 2-3/4 inch from the edge of the door. The door reinforcer is non-recessed to fit over your existing latch.
