Answer This Question

For optimum drying – putty should be applied in temperatures of 50 degrees Fahrenheit or above. Putty can be applied as long as the temperature remains above freezing, but it will significantly slow the drying process.

    Mind blowing
This putty is very simple to mix and quick setting. Was skeptical it would work due to the large holes I had in my 1950s plaster but it sets up like plaster, You can keep adding this product and stacking to get desired thickness. Picture shown is not completely smooth yet but you get the idea!

So far I've used 4 1/2 pounds to fill two "trenches" of rotted out deck boards! So far so good.

I used this for something different. I made a mold on top of a rotted post to.... grow wood and it worked great. I finished with Bondo to seal it and painted it.

After removing walls in our century old home we were left with some quite messy flooring. Our hardwood was still in good shape physically, but had been patched in with three-quarter inch plywood to fill-in gaps. Everything was structurally sound, but definitely not smooth. Even after sanding we still had quarter inch gap‘s and some places where the plywood met up with the hardwood and some random spots of hardwood planks were missing. Some holes were an inch deep by 4 inches wide! At the instruction of my journeyman carpenter father, we used multiple layers of Durham’s to fill in and feather out to level odd spots. Most of it we ended up standing with 36 grit sand paper using a belt sander, after the Durham’s was applied. This product was very easy to use. We used a 12 inch trowel and various putty knives. The product did shrink, but that was expected. We knew we were going to need multiple layers to fill in all of the gaps and unevenness that we had. This product saved us a ton of time and money because we didn’t have to add an additional Layer of flooring to even out our messy floors. I don’t see it being hand sandable for for my application. When I was done we were able to get it smooth enough to apply self stick tile, and smooth and flat enough even when running your socked feet across the wood wouldn’t catch. Just follow the directions, read the reviews and watch as many videos as needed. We are definitely beginners, but this turned out better than we ever expected. If we would’ve added another layer of subflooring to even it out, instead of using the Durham’s, we would’ve had to put in a lot of funky transition strips into other parts of the house to compensate for height differences in flooring. This product helped us achieve our open concept floor plan and made it kid friendly and wheelchair friendly by allowing us not to have transition strips.

I have used this in the past and did an exterior project where I needed a product like this to fill gaps in cracked beams before painting. The product is much cheaper and easier to work with than alternative products that I tried at the same time. The only problem I had was trying to fill several small ridges somewhat like you would use a top coat for sheetrock. I ended up sanding all of the light coat material off. I found that when sanding the lighter coated material it would chip off. My suggestion is to to fill one crack at a time and don't spread between two or more cracks unless you remove the in between material. After trying a different sized broad knives I found using a 1 to 2 inch putty knife the best tool. Also wash your tools before it starts to fully dry by spraying with a stream of water. This removed most of the product from the tools. When sanding I used an orbital sander with a 60 to 100 grit paper ( exterior work not fine finishing). I went thru the sanding discs pretty fast, as most have said this product drys very hard. I used a good quality primer followed by a good grade of paint. Very satisfied so far. I will update if the product does not hold up.
