14 in. SMC Enclosure without cover: Leviton's 14 in. Structured Media Center (SMC) makes running cable and managing media both simple and more cost-effective. Designed to provide a central distribution point for all your home or small office technologies, the enclosure accommodates networking, fax, Internet, DSL and cable. The Series 140 is the entry level for home networking. This professional grade enclosure creates 1 distribution point for an apartment or smaller home for all low voltage cables. It accommodates 2 Pre-Configured Structured Cabling Panels and is built tough to make installation easier and help reduce labor costs. White powder coated 20-Gauge steel.

How do you get anything in the box at 2” wide? I believe it should be 2” depth

This product appears to introduce airflow behind the walls and is used to encase electronic devices which can accumulated heat behind a tv. What liability does home depot absorb for fire damage resulting from this product?
This product is a box. It doesn't introduce anything. You are responsible for what you do with it. I would recommend mounting on the surface of the wall if you are concerned about heat build-up.
