I have an air return at that is just a cover and would like to replace it with the return so I don't have to crawl into the attic to replace the filter every time. The current filter size is 13 x 20 which goes in the air handler; will this return work?
Hi Mitchell, This will fit a duct opening of 14" Wide by 20" High and will hold a filter that is 14"x20" The overall outside dimension is approximately 16.75" by 22.75". I hope this helps!
This is a 20x40 return grille, which will be extremely oversized for a system with a 13x20 filter. Like, almost 4 times too big. I would suggest a return much closer in size to your current filter.
I tried special ordering a size that has been out of stock for months (40x20) and the representative at the store said it's impossible to place an order for something that is out of stock. Has everbilt discontinued the 40x20? Is it sold anywhere else?

Can you use this on a door where the head system is kept?
This return air filter grille is designed for installation on walls or ceilings. It's not designed for installation on a door, especially one where a head system (presumably a heating/cooling system component) is housed. The door's movement and the potential interference with the head system could prevent the grille from functioning correctly.
The opening in the drywall is 10.75 inches long, and 10.5 inches wide. The duct vent is actually a little larger, 11.25 inches. So even if we cut the drywall to match the duct opening it still isn't 12x12. The specs say it fits a range of duct openings. Will it work for mine? In other words, must the 12in filter fit inside the opening in the wall, or can it be on top?
Hello NewhomeSK, Since this is a return air filter grille, both the duck opening and dry wall opening must be a minimum 12-1/8" square.
My opening is 14.5 x 20. Will this cover work?
Hello GO, This model is a return air filter grille and is designed to hold a filter not just cover the duct opening. The smallest opening size that this model will fit is 14-1/8" x 20-1/8", this will give you 1/16" clearance all around the grille.
