My opening is 35 1/4” wide. Your window is 35 3/4”. Would I be able to trim the vinyl edge by 1/2” so it will fit?
No, you would not be able to trim the frame to make it fit.
Can I mount these vertically so open vertical ?
No, they are only designed to be installed in the horizontal position

No. the glass on this window is not tempered
What is the two piece snapping lock vinyl cap for on my 36 x 24 slider window
One piece is the head expander which snaps on to the top of the window to take up any extra space in the opening. The other piece is the sill angle which would cover any gap at the bottom between the bottom of the window and a sloped sill.
