This kit will work with an existing 1300/1400 series shower valve using the original (or RP19804) cartridge rather than the one that comes in the kit. Otherwise, the valve would need to be replaced with the included Rough-In Valve. If your goal is to use your existing vavle, you can just change out the cartridge and then buy new face plates. I wouldn't buy this kit since half the price is in the valve.
will the cartridge in this unit fit the valve body installed in 2003
That is a question for your plumber or the manufacturer, Delta, and not something I can answer. Good luck.

How do get the handle of after its installed??

Look behind the handle you will see a small hole, insert a allen wrench in the hole and loosen the screw, the handle will then come off.
can this be swapped into the classic single handle housing?

Customer review from deltafaucet.comI'm sorry for any issue with your Delta faucet. We recommend to to slide the sleeve forward. The valve should be installed with 2 3/8" from the finished wall to the stringer. If it is installed too far forward, you can use a longer sleeve, part number RP22735SS.
