Whole House Large Diameter Replacement Filter Cartridge

The 3M Aqua Pure Whole House System AP917 HDS works great in my home in Nokomis Florida. I used it in conjunction with a 50 micron 20" drop in pre filter, then the AP 917 HDS and it is followed by a Bluonic's UV Lamp. This entire system works great. TDS (total dissolved solids) is approximately 325-400. I have chosen not to include a whole house or point of use Reverse Osmosis System, though to if I wanted to reduce hard water or remove TDS from the water stream coming into my home, RO is the only way to do this. I put this system together to remove and reduce bad taste, odor, chloramines and chloride from my water. It also clarifies the water, making it visually clear. I have added the Bluonics UV light to kill any / all bacteria up to 99.4% in the water, should the towns water get interrupted by storm or contamination that would cause them to issue a "boil order". This product is still available and mfgd by Solventum, A healthcare company spun off from 3M in mid to late 2024. I would suggest that before you invest in a water filtration system, read your towns water quality report, understand what the town is doing for water treatment in the town's water department, and then get a vile of your tap water tested. Home Depot thru its suppliers and vendors, sometimes offers free water testing, and you usually get results within 2 weeks. Once you know what is in your water, and once you can determine what you want to remove from it, you will be able to search the best system or group of products that fit within your budget. There are many reasons why one might experience a drop in pressure, one is that the filter is doing it job and blocking particulate that you don't want, from pressing through to your home. A pre filter can help prolong any primary filter, by knowing out the bigger particles that may interfere with your primary filters performance. A typical home with 2 adults, will use approximately 10-12,000 gals of water per year. At least that's what we use here in our home. I change my pre filters 2X/year and my primary filter 1X per year. MY UV light has a life expectancy of 9000 hours. I put it on a timer from 4am-10pm, so that I use it only 18 hours per day, giving approx. 500 days or 1.3 yrs theoretically between changes. I am sure most educated home owners do not want to use a filter, regardless of life expectancy more than 1- 1 1/2 yrs. You never know what's going to grow in your filter!

Very satisifed with water filtration and ease of exchanging cartridges. Price of cartridge has doubled in the last 2 years for no apparent reason so am now going 18 mo. between changes. Very concerned about the cost.

I had the AP917HD installed about a month and a half ago and I'm already experiencing decreased flow-rate. For reference - I'm on city water and had it tested for sediment (came back clean) before to ensure I didn't need a spin down filter to extend the life of this filter. I'm at about 7-8,000 gallons and this decrease in flow is almost laughable. When it was first installed, I tested it with every upstairs faucet (4 sinks, 2 tubs, and a shower) on, and the flow was phenomenal. However, since, I've experienced a slow reduction in flow to the point that I have to bypass the filter every evening. This system is supposed to last 100,000 gallons and this is no where near the advertised metric! This decrease in flow completely offsets any of the positives that I've experienced - any smell is gone, the water tastes better, a reduction in algae and even a slight reduction in scale (even though I'm not using the HD). Not only does this reduction in flow make me regret my decision to go with 3M but also not just go with a more traditional and local whole home water system. Lastly, I couldn't find a "Contact Us" section so I am basically resulting to this method for contact. BL - 3M needs to find a way to "fix" this.

Very simple replacement, less messy than cartridge filters and lasts a full year.

I purchased and installed an AP904 Aqua-Pure filter about a month ago. The water has gotten a lot better but not all the sulfur smell is gone. I noticed in the 3M diagram there is not pre-filter so I did not install one thinking the filter would handle all the well water issues. I still have a sulfur smell in the water especially the hot water. Do I need a pre-filter? Nothing listed on 3m specs.

It didn't resolve my hard water issues and I had to install a water softener.

We have extremely hard water with calcium and this 3M 917HD-S improves the water em quality by 50%. You have to use a sediment prefilter so that the 3m filter lasts longer. I change the filter every 9-12 months for a family of 4.
