Hello and thank you for reaching out! Yes, the Dremel MM485XU blade can cut ceramic tile. Why It Works The MM485XU is an Oscillating Multi-Tool carbide-tooth blade designed to cut through hard materials such as: Ceramic tile Cement board Plaster Porcelain (in some cases) It features extra-durable carbide teeth, making it suitable for tile cutting compared to standard bi-metal blades. Key Details Ideal for small cuts, trim adjustments, and plunge cuts in tiles. will these blades cut thin set concrete were i removed subway tile
    ByApr 18, 2026
    1 Answer |
    Answer This Question

Thanks for your question. If you are cutting through the thinset to get to the wall behind it, the carbide flush cutting blade should be able to cut through it. This blade is Ideal for standard precision cutting in hardened materials such as galvanized screws, hardiebacker, plaster, metal, and hardwoods. If you’re goal is really to level the thinset, or remove all of what was holding the subway tile in place, a carbide rasp may be more effective in grinding that down. Take a look at the Dremel MM920. If we can help further, please do not hesitate to contact us at 1-800-437-3635, Monday – Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM CST.

      Answer This Question

Hello! Thank you for your question. Yes, craftsman tools will fit into the curved interface on the blade while other brands will go all the way through the pin holes. It will look a little different but there is no negative impact to the performance. If you have more questions, please contact Dremel at 1.800.437.3635 Monday- Friday 8AM to 5PM CST.

Does it cut 16 gauge metal?

          Answer This Question

The short answer is yes. I used these blades to cut through 10 gauge rodent barriers to add vents for humidity. If you're talking about new stock laying on a work surface, I'd say not so much. While short cuts work very well, it was difficult holding s straight line.

According to Dremel, these blades will fit your Fien Oscillating tool as well as most any other brand. Most of the blades you can find from nearly all manufacturers are interchangeable with nearly all brands. I found this You Tube video which clearly shows a Dremel blade being used on a Fien tool. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqPTsSs3PmY

Any toothed blade will. Try not to cut as full speed of the tool, it tends the melt the plastic and gumbup the blade

                              Great Blade!
The only thing I had to try out the blade on was some very hard wood pegs that held a desk together and I was taking it apart. This blade went through about 25 pegs in a short amount of time. I was very impressed. I had tried some other wood blade I had and it did not go through as quickly as this blade.

Dremel has provided me with this attached in exchange of the most honest review of their product. My son had punched a hole in the drywall in his room ( who knows over what). It was a small job but it worked quickly with easy clean up. I was Able to make 4 straight cuts in the drywall with no sweat.

I purchased these blades to cut through plaster and the mortar backing in a bathroom in my house that was built in 1955. One of the wall corners near a door was no way near 90 degrees. The original plastic tiles are being replaced with ceramic tile and I wanted 90 degree angles in all the wall corners for the new tile. The carbide blades cut through the plaster and mortar like they were butter. I over cut the wall material and brought it back to finished surface with wall board mud. I used the blades in a Rigid portable JobMax with the multi tool attachment.

Watch and see how well they work!
I didn't think much about these blades till I tested them out and compared them to other blades I have have. For cutting metals they are by far superior to the other metal cutting blades I have used on an oscillating tool. I have the Ridgid and Ryobi JobMax. The blades can be attached in either location, see pictures. In the short configuration you need to use the adapter that comes with the JobMax. Depending on what way you install these blades there are either a similar length as other oscillating tool blade or they are about an inch longer and had a little bit more of a swing. In the long swing the 12 volt Ridgid JobMax does drain the battery a little faster but not much. I can't tell a difference on the Ryobi tool mainly because the 18 volts and 4 amp-hr battery lasts longer than my hands can take. As for cutting ability, these do cut metals way better than the stock blade (I looked this up after making the video, it's not a metal cutting blade) and metal cutting blade (this one actually is a metal cutting blade, you might be able to see it printed on the blade in the video) I have. Carbide does made a big difference. I did not test on concrete, but I assume they are intended for CBU and other cementitious building materials not poured concrete with aggregate. If you watch the video you see me try three blades for cutting through a roofing nail, deck screw and a Tapcon. The stock (wood blade) did go through the roofing nail okay, but not the deck screw. The metal cutting blade did not do much better with the deck screw. But the Dremel blade cut through all the screws easily.

                                    Carbide cutting blades
This universal carbide cutting blade can be used on a number of different oscillating tools. I have used it on my Rockwell Sonicrafter F50. It performed very well. This blade has the same kerf like most of the other oscillating blades I've used. The cutting area is the same size but the mounting portion of the blade is larger to be able to compatible with other oscillating tools. I've used this blade a few times now and am really impressed with how easily it cuts through soft wood, as well as drywall, PVC, plaster and various metals. I can't yet speak to the durability of this blade. So far I'm very pleased with its use and recommend it.
