I would say it would make for better suction however it possible wouldn’t matter due to the power in this little plunger.

The black lip of the plunger keeps slipping off. Is this normal or did I get a defective one?

It's not defective. Just crappy. Mine did the same thing. After the slightest bit of pressure, it came off.

Hello Doc-Very good question. The HDX311 has a 4 1/2 inch diameter base at the bottom of the plunger, from black flange edge to edge. The inner diameter on this is 3 1/2 inches. The HDX311 is made to fit sinks holes up to 4 1/2 inches. If you have any questions please contact our Customer Support Team at 877-272-7755.

                      It cleared the clog
Worked well, but the black piece doesn't go back in properly. Hope this isn't an issue for future use

Worked at first, but fails early.
I bought two of these to work on a twin-basin kitchen sink. Both were crap. They seemed to be doing well for about a half-dozen plunges, and to be fair they did start to kick up some of the grease clog. Then the rubber skirt pops up around the bellows section on both. Eventually they just don't stay put at the bottom of the plunger. If you were looking for something to keep under the kitchen sink, my recommendation is to just buy a dedicated short-handled plunger (buy a bog standard, red rubber one and cut the handle down if you need to) and make sure nobody smuggles it into a bathroom.

worked fine once, broke the second plunge
The seam that connects the two halves of the plunger during the molding process popped open at the top during the second, barely hard plunge. The black rubber ring at the end thats supposed to seal the draining opening almost always flipped back up or completely off the edge and up onto the corrugated shaft. Guess you really do get what you pay for

Did the job with one plunge!
I used an entire bottle of drain cleaner to no avail hoping to unclog my bathroom sink. I found this bad boy online and drove right out to my local Home Depot to purchase it. Came home, plunged once and BAM! Bye bye clog! Easy to use. Highly recommended!

Decent suction until the seam just below the handle split... I didn’t experience the problem (separation of the black seal) noted by many other reviewers...

                                  Really Works
This did the job in unclogging my kitchen and bathroom sink. Water would rise as soon as I turned the water on but now water flows. Drano didn’t work but this little thing worked. Caution: Don’t use heavy force as others reviewers mentioned. $3 well spent.

As other people mentioned, the black rubber ring piece does come out of the grooves it sits in when you're plunging. However, for $3 this did the trick for my kitchen sink. I am in no way savvy with plumbing or pipes or drains or any of that stuff, but this proved to be an extremely affordable tool that WORKS and will be useful to keep around. Just buy it!!

                                      Awesome!
Cleared the bathroom sink drain in 30 seconds. Had previously used three different liquid plumbers and baking soda and white vinegar but they did nothing. Would definitely recommend this product to others.

                                        Small but mighty!
After Plan A (liquid drain cleaner) and Plan B (baking soda and vinegar) failed to unclog my bathtub drain, I traveled to The Home Depot to purchase Plan C (a plunger) and Plan D (a drain auger). When I spied this tiny yellow instrument, I was skeptical of its power, but it attached itself to the aisle floor quite securely in an impromptu test I carried out, so I decided to give it a chance. To make a long story short, I never had to resort to Plan D; the plunger was able to clear the clog by itself. After a few plunges, water was flowing freely. I'm going to return the unneeded drain auger to The Home Depot tomorrow, but I'm keeping this plunger forever! As you're viewing this item online, you might have a hard time getting a sense of how small and light this plunger is. From the rim of the bell to the tip of the handle, it measures seven inches. On my scale, it weighs in at exactly two ounces. You can carry it anywhere, and it's easy to store. The design is adorable; I kind of want to glue some googly eyes on the handle and use it as a shelf ornament. Of course, this plunger is suitable only for sink, shower, and bathtub drains; the handle is much too short for this plunger to be useful in the toilet.
