Hi Cyrus! Thanks for your question. The application amount for Ortho Orthene Fire Ant Killer1 is based on the mound size. Below is information on how much product to use for each mound size. The entire fire ant colony should die within 3-7 days. Mowing, tilling, rolling, dethatching, and aerating will not affect the efficacy; however, these procedures will disturb the surface and can cause the fire ants to move their nests. Mound diameter less than 4" - apply 1 teaspoon Mound diameter 4" to 12" - apply 4 teaspoons Mound diameter greater than 12" - apply 3 tablespoons
Is this product safe to use on palm tree beds?
Ortho® Orthene® Fire Ant Killer1 can be used for the treatment of fire ant mounds for home lawns and around ornamental plants. (including flower, shrubs & trees). It's not registered for use directly on ornamental plants.

When making an application with Ortho Orthene Fire Ant Killer1 (twin Pack), we suggest, at a minimum, not allowing pets such as cats and dogs, and other non-grazing pets, into the treated area until the dust from applying has settled. For best results, keep pets such as cats and dogs and other non-grazing pets out of the application area for up to 24 hrs so that the mound is not disturbed, allowing the ants to track the powder into the mound to effectively kill the ants in the mound, including the queen.

Once in this position, the cap will stop turning counterclockwise. Then, squeeze the cap only in the spots that say "squeeze hard" using the slightly raised grip spots on the lower portion of the cap. Squeezing only in these two positions will change the shape of the cap to more of an elongated oval, allowing the locking tab on the cap to bypass the locking tab on the container.
