About This Product
Makita, a pioneer in brushless motor technology and battery innovation, combines both in the 18V X2 LXT (36V) Lithium-Ion Brushless 9 in. Paddle Switch Cut-Off/Angle Grinder with Electric Brake. It's powered by two 18V Lithium-Ion batteries for 36V power and performance, and has an electronically-controlled BL Brushless motor that matches torque and RPM to the application. Makita 18V X2 means freedom from the cord, even for demanding applications like grinding and cut-off applications that often call for a corded grinder. Best of all, users can remain in one battery platform, using the same fast-charging 18V batteries on the XAG13 as they use across the Makita 18V LXT cordless tool system. The XAG13 is equipped with efficiency features for maximum performance. The electric brake stops the grinding or cut-off wheel in 4.5 seconds or less for maximum productivity, and the Electronic Torque Control turns the motor off if rotation speed suddenly slows or the wheel is forced to a stop. For consistent performance, Automatic Speed Change technology adjust speed and torque during operation. For added comfort, the vibration absorbing back handle is isolated from the motor housing for reduced vibration, and the soft start feature suppresses start-up reaction for smoother start-ups and longer gear life. It has a no lock-on rear paddle trigger switch, and the anti-restart protection is engineered to prevent motor start-up when the battery is inserted with the switch locked on.

Does your XDT14 have any vibration/wobble issue on long spade bits ? Also -when tool is off -do you feel any backlash(mechanical gap) in anvil mechanism when you shake the tool back & forth ? Thanks
I feel a slight wobble with some spade bits but I rarely use it with an impact, only when I'm in a jam. I don't think I feel what you're asking in the 2nd part of the question

Is there anything to prevent using 7 inch cutting discs on this 9 inch grinder? The one Home Depot review says the battery power is depleted quickly on this 9 inch grinder, but the 7 inch equivalent grinder has great reviews. So my logic is to buy the 9 inch version and mainly use 7 inch discs on it unless I really need to use a 9 inch disc.

What is the differences in the letter suffixes at the end of the model number XDT14? The XDT14 M, R, T, and Z. I found a XDT14 in the store dsiplay that was an orphan which wouldn't sell. It was a lot shorter (back of mortor- to tip of socket) than any other model and that's what I need. Is it safe to assume that they are all identical XDT14 tools and the letters just signify the packaging configuration, ie: different amp-hour battery included/not included?
Not sure but they have the compact one in 3 and 4 speed besides regular 1 speed.
Maddog, that is incorrect. All the model number XDT14 drivers are 3 speed. You are thinking of the XDT11, 12, and 13. This question asks specifically about the XDT14, only.
