do i have to cover up metal post that have been painted black ?
    ByMay 19, 2026
    1 Answer |
    Answer This Question

Ready Seal can absorb into any porous surface. If there is concern, you might want to test on an inconspicuous area to see how it affects that paint surface. Masking and taping off those areas would be advised, for caution's sake.

      Does it yellow after applying
      ByMay 17, 2026
      1 Answer |
      Answer This Question

Ready Seal never turns yellow, because it is a penetrating stain, not a coating.

            How long does it last?
            ByMay 5, 2026
            1 Answer |
            Answer This Question

Ready Seal's longevity depends on your wood, it's condition, age, and also the weather conditions, but it typically will last 3-5 years on vertical surfaces, and 1-3 years on horizontal surfaces, before needing a softwash and reapplication.

Can this be mixed with a non slip additive?
              ByMay 5, 2026
              1 Answer |
              Answer This Question

Non-Slip additives cannot be mixed into Ready Seal, because it is a penetrating Stain, and the additive will not adhere to any surface upon or after application.

This stain is a great color and went on easily with a paint sprayer. I used three gallons, but each one didn’t seem to mix quite right despite a lot of stirring. Because of this, a few areas went on really dark and I had to sand them down and redo them (though it's possible this was user error). Still, I would use this stain again because it soaked into the wood easily and doesn't look runny at all.

I really like this product! I have used it a few times in the past. A little bit of it goes a long ways and it soaks in very good. And like other products you can walk on this within a few hours, dries completely within a couple days. I've used it on new and used decks works great on both. Color is different on newer decks more red. Picture is of a really old deck that I pressure washed first came out looking like new!

The stain is pretty good make sure to have it shaken before use if it isn't used soon after stir really well. I used a sprayer so a lot is wasted and some puddles takes awhile to dry. Make sure your wood has had at least 6 months in the sun before use.

Very nice color, major upgrade to my older fence. This has it looking new again, and is a natural tone. I did one coat of the natural cedar color. Power washed a day or two before applying.

This stain was a lovely color on our 6month old pine privacy fence. The application was super smooth and NO LINES from drip or our lack of experience with painting. We did one side with a 4” brush and then sprayed the other side. No issues with either type of application!

The stain is easy to apply and looks great on a cedar fence but does need to be re-applied after a couple of years exposure to the sun. Any leftover stain in the can goes bad after a few months.

                  DAMAGED
I purchased numerous 5 gallon batch containers and had them shipped to me. I did my homework; even spoke with a ReadySeal salesperson on the phone and prepped products (additional purchases) to backbrush so it lasts. The problem here was that every single 5 gallon container that was shipped—were in only a loose cardboard box and inside a thin plastic bag. UPS dropped them off, clearly raised alarm bells when I could see the boxes looked wet and once opened they were busted, dented, and at the seams smashed inwards and the oil sealer was leaking all over the place; I took some to Home Depot to get shaken (free service curtousy) but those were also dented (least of dented) and literally opened and leaked there in the machine and then all over my SUV. Very frustrated and the pigments, resins, were loss as they sit at the bottom providing not a true product. I spent a lot of money to a quarter acre worth of both sides fence. I complained to ReadySeal who ignored me when I told them they need to package these better and informed them of my issues at my loss five times. Nobody cared to follow-up with me to address the issues. Garage floor stains, the plastic bags, it will leak right through as well. I don't know what a true undamaged product result would look like so I can't specificate the finished result.

                    Amazing product!
We just recently had a new fence (treated pine) installed and waited 2 months to stain/seal it. I did some research and found only amazing reviews pointing me to this product. We used two 5 gallon cans of the Ready Seal in color Pecan. It’s the perfect brown stain. The can says “Goof Proof” and it truly is. From the amazing pour spout (I watched a YouTube video to know how to open it), easy application, consistent color…I loved everything about it. I’m the painter in our household and I’ve used many brands like sherwin-Williams, Behr, Valspar, Thompson’s water sealer. This product was the best product I’ve ever used for exterior wood. My fence turned out beautiful and I’m eager to see the longevity of the product.

Great color. Best price for oil-based semi transparent stain I could find. Pleased with results. In my pic, left side is unstained, right side is stained. 15yo fence so application color will vary depending on the age of your wood. For newer gate wood in a different area, it was true cedar color and looked great with 1 medium coat application with sprayer, then back-brush by hand.
