I am really impressed with this sander. I fits nicely in my hand and is comfortable to use for extended times. The best part is the dust collection feature. It doesn't get all the dust of course, but I was impressed by what it picks up. The dust collection bag comes off easily with sort of a bayonet-style twist for emptying.

                      Great sander for the price!
I brought this random orbital sander after 1) researching what random orbital sanders is exactly are and 2) after reading the reviews. Having used an electric linear sander all my life, with clip on sandpaper, and never really liking the way my projects turned out…this sander is a beast! I needed to refinish a 4’x8’ outdoor teak table and this sander made short work stripping off the old teak oil stain. Two passes with 120 grit pads, changed 3x and two passes with 220 grit pads changes 2x and the table looks brand new! Variable speed is great, vibrations are minimal and the dust bag takes care of dust flying everywhere. This product does not come with a battery but my DeWalt cordless drill battery enabled me to complete the job on one charge. Do not hesitate to buy this sander- you’ll be as happy as I was using it.

                        Great Sander
I bought a second one so I could have help, this thing is a game changer. The battery life lasts long. The speed control is amazing. The dust control is also pretty awesome. You get hardly any dust when you’re sanding. The hook and loop sending pads was quite a long time. It’s not very heavy. You can sand for quite a long time without getting fatigue. I highly recommend this sander for any of your sanding projects.

                          Terrible Heat & Dust Tolerance
⭐️ DeWalt DCW210B 5″ XR Random Orbital Sander — Honest Review I’ve got roughly $5,000 worth of DeWalt tools in my garage, so I’m not some casual buyer with one battery and a pocket full of expectations. I wanted this sander to be great — but the DCW210B has been nothing short of disappointing in real shop use. This thing looks good on paper: five-speed control, brushless motor, cordless convenience. But here’s the reality: ❌ Weak Under Actual Use It does fine for a quick light pass on pine or bare wood. But as soon as you ask it to actually do work — resin sanding, old paint removal, sustained sanding sessions — the electronics give up way too fast. Standard XR batteries let it limp along. PowerStack batteries make it instantly overload and shut down. That’s not performance, that’s panic under pressure. ❌ Speed Dial Is Mostly Window Dressing You can spin that five-speed dial like it means something, but under load the tool just collapses into one mood: “overwhelmed.” You lose any meaningful speed control the moment the sanding gets aggressive. ❌ Terrible Heat & Dust Tolerance Fine dust and heat are the enemies of small cordless orbitals, and this one seems like it lives in denial. Resin dust clogs it, heat builds up, and the speed controller shuts the tool down prematurely — more than once. A sander should sand, not constantly negotiate with its own thermal sensors. ❌ Durability Issues This is actually my fourth unit after prior replacements failed under the same conditions. That’s not bad luck — that’s a pattern. I could accept a marginal tool once, maybe even twice. But four times? That tells me this tool is fundamentally under-engineered for real shop use. ⚠️ Good For… • Quick touch-ups • Light wood finishing • Casual occasional sanding But that’s it. 💡 Not Good For… • Extended sanding sessions • Resin or old finish removal • Professional or workshop use • Anywhere you want reliable performance 🧾 Bottom Line The DeWalt DCW210B looks good in catalogs and reviews for casual hobby use, but in a real workshop environment it fails to meet expectations. Nice idea, poorly executed performance. For anything beyond super-light sanding, a corded orbital from Makita or Bosch — or even DeWalt’s own corded models — will outperform this cordless at a fraction of the headache. Rating: ⭐⭐ out of ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (2/5) Not because the concept is terrible, but because the execution doesn’t hold up under real work. I am following up regarding my recent review of the DeWalt DCW210B and the outreach from the DeWalt product expert referenced in the response. After being contacted and asked to reach out directly, I did so promptly. Unfortunately, I have not received a response. At this point, the outreach appears to have been more procedural than solution-oriented. While I appreciate that Home Depot provides a platform for manufacturers to respond to reviews, it is discouraging when those responses do not result in meaningful follow-through.

                            “Five Speeds, One Nervous Breakdown
DeWalt DCW210B 5-Inch XR Orbital Sander Let me preface this so nobody accuses me of being anti-yellow: I have roughly $5,000 worth of DeWalt tools in my garage. Routers, saws, drills, impacts. Tools I use. Tools I like. Tools that earn their keep. That’s exactly why this review exists. The DCW210B 5-inch XR Orbital Sander is one of the most frustrating tools DeWalt makes because it almost gets it right, then falls apart the moment it’s asked to do real work. Yes, It Has Five Speeds There is a five-speed dial. I see it. I can turn it. The problem is that those five speeds collapse into one personality under load. In real use: • Lower speeds bog down immediately. • Higher speeds overheat and trigger shutdowns. • Under PowerStack batteries, the electronics panic like they weren’t invited to the upgrade. So while the dial technically exists, effective speed control disappears the moment resistance is introduced. That’s not versatility. That’s theater. Where It Really Fails 1. Electronics That Can’t Handle Modern Batteries Standard XR batteries let the tool limp along. PowerStack batteries expose the weakness instantly. Overheating, inconsistent output, shutdowns. This isn’t battery incompatibility. This is underbuilt control electronics being overwhelmed. 2. Heat and Dust Kill It Fast Fine dust and resin dust get inside. Heat builds. Speed controller degrades. Then you’re left with a sander that either: • runs at near full blast regardless of dial setting, or • shuts off like it’s offended you tried to sand something harder than pine. I’m on my third unit. That’s not coincidence. That’s design tolerance being exceeded by normal shop use. 3. Cordless Convenience, Corded Reliability Missing Cordless is not an excuse anymore. Plenty of tools manage battery power without self-destructing. A finishing tool that can’t survive extended finishing is a miss, full stop. The Most Annoying Part DeWalt absolutely knows how to do this right. Their routers are excellent. Their saws are tanks. Which makes the DCW210B feel like it was rushed to fill a catalog slot instead of engineered to survive daily use. Bottom Line Yes, it has five speeds. No, they don’t meaningfully matter when the tool can’t maintain them under real conditions. The DCW210B isn’t unreliable because users are abusing it. It’s unreliable because its electronics and thermal management aren’t built for sustained sanding in dusty environments. That’s not edge-case abuse. That’s the job. If DeWalt revises this line with better sealing, better heat management, and a controller that can actually handle PowerStack output, yI’d gladly come back. Until then, this is one of the weakest links in an otherwise solid lineup.

                              Incompatible combo
I bought the combo sander with replacement sanding pad since it seemed like a very good deal on the sander. The additional replacement sanding pad is not for the sander provided in the combo bought. The sander model is DCW210B that has four holes for attaching the sanding pad. The sanding pad included with this combo has 3 holes for attaching to the sander and clearly indicates its for models other than the DCW210B sander. I wasn't sure why I would need this replacement to begin with as these don't wear out very quickly in my expierence. But the combo was the best deal I've seen on the sander. So I'm really confused as to what I am to do with the included replacement sanding pad. I guess I'm stuck with a replacement sanding pad that goes with a sander I don't have?? As I stated really confused about why this combo exists?? Am I totally missing something? A loyal Dewalt buyer
