The BEHR Multi-Surface Roof Paint is a premium quality, durable, 100% acrylic latex flat finish. This coating is mildew and algae resistant and will not discolor or yellow when exposed to typical high roof temperatures. It has excellent adhesion to various types of roofing materials and is tintable to match a variety of custom colors. Ideal for use on new or old unglazed tile, masonry shingle, anchored gravel, aluminum/metal materials, composite sheet, asphalt shingles, concrete or cement block, urethane foam, slate or wood shake roofs.

Hi Java, thank you for your question. The metal roof should be in good sound condition and free of any loose coating, rust, or substrate. Galvanized metal should be etched to promote adhesion. From there, make sure the surface is clean and dry. The Multi-Surface Roof Paint will need a primer, and we recommend our Multi-Surface Primer for the metal. I see that this paint requires a primer and sealer or just a primer? I want to mix it into a hydrated limewash to block the heat from the sun. I have an asphalt shingled roof. I've read that I cannot use Henry's because of the sealer. Help, please.

Failed overall

This product is good in theory, but here are the problems. 1, has a chemical in it that says it will keep moss, etc from growing on roof, problem is when is rains, the chemical separates from the paint and kills anything it lands on, we have 5’ circular spots under every downspout where it killed the grass. If we didn’t have gutters it would have killed all of our land scape. It foams up when it rains and runs out. 2nd, is coverage, our roof is under 2500sq ft, small ranch. Should have needed approx 10-12 gallons for rough surface asphalt shingles, we used 43 gallons, costed a lot more than anticipated, that would have been a good push to new shingles, only reason why we painted them is they were red and ugly, but in really good shape. 3rd shipping, delayed our project many times because the 5 gallon pails came broke 3 times and had to return and order again. 4th, rolled on with one inch thick, 18” wide roller and when you over lap as you move down, it dries so fast that you will see overlap strips, it’s inevitable. 5th. I ordered charcoal and in the sunlight it looks like a light bluish gray. Order black if you want it dark at all. Now that it’s done and $1500 later, it does look good besides the overlapping. We will see how long it lasts. If we wanted behr or Home Depot to do anything about the problems, they said we would have to put in a claim in and an inspector would come out, test the paint, get on the roof, blah, blah. We are so fed up with this project I don’t think we will bother, because let’s be real, no one stand la behind their product any more any way. I think it would just be additional stress with nothing to gain. I’ve told them the issues, if they wanna do something out it, they will.
