Why can't this fixture be mounted upside down? Why is it not "reversable"?
Hello, the fixture can be installed with the shades facing up however this will illuminate the ceiling and provide little to no light downward.
Can this be used as an exterior fixture?
No, the fixture is for indoor use only. It is not wet rated, designed or coated for outdoor use.
can these be mounted 'upside down', i.e. with the wider part pointing upwards?

Is the 10" height measured from the top of the wall-mounted canopy to the bottom of the shades, or is it measured from the cross-bar (to which the two light fixtures are attached) to the bottom of the shades?
