Can a straddle type exterior mount Weathervane be attached to this metal hip style ?
We are looking at a Cupola with a weathervane. I have two questions. 1. Is the Cupola cut out for the pitch of the roof?, or are we left to do that? 2. How is the Cupola attached? We have the availability to put it on before shingles. Thoughts?
Accentua cupolas are shipped uncut; when shipped, the bottoms of all four sides of the bases are straight across, and then are cut to fit as needed onsite by installers. Screws are provided to screw through the base into the roof. We actually recommend that the cupola is installed over top of shingles. The screw penetrations into the roof occur underneath the cupola's coverage, and no flashing is needed if the cupola is installed over top of the shingles.
How does this fit different pitched roofs?
Accentua cupolas ship without the bases cut (they are shipped straight across on the bottoms of all four sides). There is enough space in the square bases to cut for gables as steep as 10/12 pitch. The marking and cutting process is fairly simple; the cellular PVC can easily be cut with a circular or jig saw.
can a weather vane be added?
An externally mounted weathervane could be added to the Bryce cupola, but there is no hole provided for a vane that uses a shaft that goes into the cupola. You may also want to look at Accentua's Yosemite model, which has a 3/4" hole in the top and internal cross bracing for supporting a weathervane shaft.
