Questions & Answers

Can I use this product as a dehumifier only by connecting a drain hose as instructed to a floor drain and not connecting the exhaust hose to a window?
ByOct 1, 2026

Answer This Question

LG 8,000 (DOE) BTU 115-Volt Portable Air Conditioner Unit Cools 350 sq. ft. with Dehumidifier and Wi-Fi in Gray, Model # LP0823GSSM has an exceptionally high dehumidification capacity, pulling up to 3.09 pints of water per hour out of the air. If you rely on the machine's internal collection pan, it will fill up rapidly. Once full, the unit will shut down completely and flash an "FL" (Full Tank) error code on the display until you empty it manually via the bottom drain plug. According to its Installation Guide, you should remove the upper drain cap on the back of the unit and attach a standard garden hose for continuous gravity drainage. Run this hose down to a floor drain or sump pump so the unit can run continuously without shutting down. However, even in Dry Mode, the unit runs its internal compressor to make the indoor coils cold enough for water to condense. This process naturally creates waste heat at the back of the machine. If you do not vent the hose outside, the machine will exhaust hot air straight back into the room. While it will still extract moisture, the room will become very warm and stuffy, so to use it correctly, you should keep the flexible exhaust hose attached and vented through the window panel kit, just as you would when running it in standard cooling mode...^Ivan.

      Answer This Question

Hello, Zebby! Thank you for sharing your question with us about the LG Portable Air-Conditioner (LP0823GSSM). Yes, this model does require a window vent. The exhaust hose must be connected to the window kit so the unit can properly release warm air outside. Without venting, the room won’t cool effectively and the system won’t operate as intended. Answer This Question

When last did you clean the air filter for the LG 8,000 (DOE) BTU 115-Volt Portable Air Conditioner Unit Cools 350 sq. Ft. with Dehumidifier and Wi-Fi in Gray, Model # LP0823GSSM? If the unit is running but not cooling, the most common culprits are a a dirty air filter, an improperly installed exhaust hose, or an iced-up evaporator coil. Clogged filters restrict airflow and dramatically reduce cooling efficiency. Pull out the filter, wash it with warm, soapy water, let it air dry completely, and reinstall it. LG recommends doing this every two weeks. Ensure the hose is securely attached, not kinked or blocked, and vented directly outside. For optimal performance, keep the hose as short and straight as possible without exceeding 5 feet. If you notice frost or ice buildup on the internal coils, turn the unit off and let the ice melt completely. Running the AC with ice on the coils makes the issue worse....^Ivan.

That's because this unit is junk. Same problem here after just a few weeks of use. Would never recommend LG portable a/c units. Too expensive for such early failure. Read the other reviews, same issue.

Can this be used with sliding doors?

                    Answer This Question

LG does not make a sliding door kit for this LG 8,000 (DOE) BTU 115-Volt Portable Air Conditioner Unit Cools 350 sq. Ft. with Dehumidifier and Wi-Fi in Gray, Model # LP0823GSSM. It only comes with a window installation kit that allows you to install it in most vertical-sliding windows 25″ to 47″ wide, or horizontal-sliding windows from 25″ to 47″ high. While a sliding door kit is not provided with the unit, it may be possible to use it in a sliding door, but we do not have instructions for that, nor can we advise you how that can be done... ^Ivan.

                      Worst appliance ever purchased
Buyer beware. Unit suffered sudden catastrophic failure after four months of use, no longer cools at all. All troubleshooting steps were taken. Opened a case with LG Support to request a merchandise credit since this unit failed two weeks after the 1-year warranty window. Request was denied after 3 weeks spent hounding LG customer support, was given a measly 15% discount on future purchase (insult to injury). Unit is not serviceable by a technician. $400 for four months of service from an appliance is a new low in quality. Staying far away from any LG product after this experience.

I’ve had this unit for about two months. I’ve cleaned the air filters. There is no airflow being restricted, and it is blowing as if it was just a fan not cooling at all a waste of 500 bucks.

                              Waste of Money
I purchased this unit for my master bedroom in August 2024 to reduce the load on my main A/C. It was used very lightly—only about 2 hours at night for roughly one month that year, and then again for about 2 months during summer 2025 with the same limited use. Today, I checked the unit and it is no longer working. The control panel just blinks and the unit won’t turn on. Unfortunately, the warranty has already expired. I’m very disappointed that a $400 unit with such minimal use has failed so quickly.

Hi, Ceas. Thank you for reaching out to us. We understand the importance of having your LG Air Conditioner (LP0823GSSM) model reliably cooling your space whenever you need it. When the control panel lights on your unit are blinking, it often indicates that the air conditioner has entered a self-protection mode or requires a hard reset to clear the internal memory. Please try the following troubleshooting step: Hard Power Reset: (1) Unplug the unit from the wall power outlet completely. Keep it unplugged for at least 5 minutes. (2) After this time, plug the unit back directly into a grounded wall outlet (avoid using extension cords or power strips) and attempt to power it on. For more guidance, visit https://www.lg.com/us/support/help-library/lg-air-conditioner-power-power-not-turned-on--20154610480701. We’d be glad to take a closer look at your unit. When the first one didn't work out of the box, I got another identical one. It worked ok, but it's really loud. Almost unbearable in a 'medium size room'. On top of that, it has developed a loud pop and bang when turning starting or stopping. Which is constant. It will not just run quietly or continuously. Practically unbearable and useless. The app is nice. But without equipment to compliment, it's useless also.

Hi, there. Thank you for reaching out about your LG Portable Air Conditioner (LP0823GSSM) model. We understand how important it is for your unit to run smoothly and quietly, especially in a medium-sized room.

As a first step, please check that the unit is placed on a level surface and that the exhaust hose is installed securely without bends or blockages. A misaligned hose or uneven placement can cause loud noises or popping sounds during compressor start and stop cycles. Additionally, cleaning the air filter can help reduce strain on the system and improve airflow. You can find more guidance here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WzXOyUe9Tak. We understand your concern that the unit is no longer blowing cold air after only 15 months. We strive to provide reliable, high-quality products and services to ensure a smooth experience. If the unit is not blowing cold air, we recommend checking the air filter to ensure it is clean. A clogged filter can restrict airflow and hinder the unit's cooling efficiency. Also, check the hose to ensure it is properly installed and not kinked, as this can affect the unit's ability to exhaust hot air. No proper hose connection. They actually recommend you to duct tape the hose on. This company does make some descent stuff. This is not their specialty. 100 percent junk. You will tape and tape and tape and tape. Buy plenty of tape. Our government will allow anyone to sell anything in this country. Using the unit in a 120 sf room and it barely gets the job done. Takes several hours for any real affect. There's no way it will cool 350 sf as advertised. Not a chance. Cooling mode does not blow any cooler than dry mode and it does not blow very cool at all. Overall I'm disappointed but it does take the edge off eventually. I would not recommend it for the price.

Hi, there. Thank you for sharing your experience with your LG Portable Air Conditioner (LP0823GSSM) model, especially about how well it cools. We really love every opportunity we get to help our customers and want to make sure you’re enjoying your unit to the fullest. This unit is rated at 8,000 BTU (SACC) and 12,000 BTU (ASHRAE), designed to cool spaces up to 350 sq. ft., so it should totally handle a 120 sq. ft. room with ease.

To help boost cooling performance, here are a few simple steps: Make sure the unit is set to Cool Mode and the temperature is lower than the current room temperature. Give the air filter a check and clean it if needed. Take a look at the exhaust hose for any kinks or leaks, and ensure it’s properly vented outside. This portable AC unit works amazingly. Fast and easy installation with simple straight forward directions. The building I have this in has very little insulation and it still is able to keep the room cool. Highly recommended
