Is the cherry color the same as mahogany? I need mahogany to match my desk but if it’s close enough I’ll live with it

is it special dark brown or is this actually black?
I don't know about a 'special dark brown' but it is a nice soft brown color - exactly the shade shown in the photo. Cherry brown.

Can it be used on a kitchen counter and withstand getting a little wet occasionally?
I would not recommend it to be used where water is regularly present- the wood would soon show damage. I have it under a TV and it works great there.
