Questions & Answers

Why is it called 21mm? Are we referring to 21 metric millimeters? And why is there a 21mm and a different 7” random orbital option? American and rest of the world options?
ByJun 19, 2026
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

The 21 mm refers to the orbit diameter (throw) of the dual-action (DA) polisher — the distance the pad moves off-center while spinning. The 7" Random Orbital option refers to the pad diameter, not the orbit throw.

Is the spindle thread 3/16" or 5/8"? What are the correct Milwaukee part numbers for each size spindle thread?
    BySep 10, 2025
    1 Answer |
    Answer This Question

Hi, Jonathan. The M18 FUEL™ 21mm Random Orbital Polisher includes a 6" backing plate, which is compatible with hook-and-loop polishing pads. For spindle thread adapters, Milwaukee offers the 5/8"-11 to M10 x 1.25 Thread Adapter, which is commonly used for angle grinders but may be applicable depending on your specific accessory needs.

Are these devices rotary or random in operation? Does the polishing head connect with hooks? What is the best machine for polishing a car without burning the paint?

      Answer This Question

Hi, Jonathan. The M18 FUEL™ 21mm Random Orbital Polisher, and the polishing head connects using a hook and loop attachment method. The M18 FUEL™ 21mm Random Orbital Polisher is ideal for polishing a car without burning the paint due to its random orbital action, which reduces the risk of paint damage compared to rotary polishers.

                    Best Purchase Of 2024
This is one very powerful tool. I initially had the 15mm & decided to switch over to the 21mm & honestly I couldn’t be happier. I love this DA polisher & it’s hands down the best purchase I’ve made so far in 2024. Also I’d like to add that as soon as I placed my order for this polisher i also purchased the 5in backing plate for it & it worked perfectly. I prefer the 5in backing plate so that was going to be the only reason I wasn’t going to switch over to the 21mm from the 15mm but after seeing that, the 5in backing plate was available & also that it stated In the description that it was also designed for the 21mm just as much as it is designed for the 15mm I knew it was a done deal & that I needed it at that point. Additionally, I would recommend anyone who buys the 21mm to switch over to the 5in backing plate, You will not be let down I promise you.

                    Great polisher
Another great product by Milwaukee. This polisher is truly amazing and does a fantastic job every time. The polisher is fantastic and has 8 speed setting range from 2,400 rpms to 4,500 rpms with a variable speed trigger. The polisher bad is 6in with a 21 mm random orbit. The polisher can use any m18 battery but if you are using this for extended periods I would recommend using only 5.0 batteries as the unit weighs 7lbs with a 5.0 battery so the bigger the battery the more fatigue you might experience as you continue to use. The vibration in the unit is well contained and distributed through the polisher that there is no major vibration felt. Overall a great polisher that come with the quality expected from Milwaukee.

                    great polisher
The Milwaukee M18 21mm orbital polisher is extremely well designed and engineered. The polisher is pretty well balanced (depending on the size if battery for example the 12ah wont be balanced well) for easy of control and less fatigue. The polisher is variable speed so you can adjust to what you're doing and not burn the paint job. The polisher is a excellent choice for doing ceramic coatings, paint corrections and the line and also the basic car waxes. The polisher has excellent run time and doesn't eat up batteries.

                    Perfect Buffer
I had some scratches on my vehicle I wanted to remove and found that this Milwaukee cordless polisher is perfect to accomplish the task. First, the polisher is battery powered which made it much easier to use as cords have to be managed and sometimes extended. The brushless motor operates very smoothly, maintains the proper speed and is easy to control. The speed is controlled with an eight position speed dail and the trigger has a lock on button so I don't have to hold it and can concentrate on polishing. It also has a random orbital polishing head which is safer to use as not to burn the finish. The polisher head uses hook and loop to hold pads in place. I also like the handle above the head which makes it more comfortable to use.

Well-designed polisher for your vehicle or other things if needed!
I was looking for a cordless polisher for vehicle use but also for other things like tabletops or even a plexiglass window in a sand-blasting cabinet. This polisher excelled at both applications. First we used this buffer on my neighbors 2008 truck. He always has problems with streaking in the paint – very hard to remove without a ton of elbow grease. This tool was easy to work – it is pretty heavy due to the sturdy construction; but the balance is just right, which makes it easy to maneuver. The variable speed switch is also a plus – I could speed up the buffer for harder to smooth areas. Battery placement is sideways, which gives you a few more inches of space from the material when buffing. Removed the streak marks that normally take me more than a few minutes to buff – all in seconds. Softer pads with swirl remover polish also eliminates “spider marks” effectively. I then used it to polish the plexiglass window from my sand-blasting cabinet. The window had become crazed from normal use which made it difficult to see clearly. I used this tool to polish the window first with automotive scratch and swirl remover followed by 3000 grit sandpaper. I then followed with a coat of wax. The window is not like new but it is quite functional. Because I was less concerned about damage than when working on a car, I tried one-handed operation once the polisher was up to speed. This is useful when more aggressive polishing is required. The balance and location of the variable speed switch made this work well. This polisher fills the needs of a wide variety of applications. This is a top-of-the-line tool that I expect to last for years to come.

                    actually comfortable to use
Wow this is actually comfortable to use - I thought the vibration would be annoying – but its very subdued and does not tire you out. The shape of the front knob allows varying the angle and position of your hand to maintain a very comfortable grasp of the polisher as you move around. The long rubber covered lower part of the body (“handle”) also allows changing your grasp as needed. The rotated orientation of the battery gives additional clearance at that end of the polisher. Although heavier than a corded polisher, the majority of the weight is up front, the weight only becomes an issue when using the polisher on vertical surfaces. An 8 position speed dial (2400 – 4500 rpm) is located on top above the trigger – the 2 finger wide variable speed trigger with a trigger lock-on button is convenient – the motor feedback system maintains speed and power under load.

                    Love Milwaukee Toole
First, just to be clear, I have a variety of Milwaukee fuel M18 tools and have found all of them well made, well designed and reliable. This polisher is no exception. We own a large boat and the several times a year we need to polish it has become a real chore. We have 2 larger buffers but on the smaller areas I have been resorting to hand polishing or using a drill attachment which I really don't like. This polisher is really going to help cut down on the work. It's well balanced and loaded with good features. I like the variable rpm setting so your not damaging surfaces. The trigger lock is another good touch. One unexpected feature was the removable dust screen on the motor vent. Although not something of concern for me, I can understand how it would come in handy in really dusty applications. If you haven't used any of the Milwaukee fuel products, the batteries are fantastic.

                    Terrific Polisher
Milwaukee M18 FUEL18-Volt Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless 21MM DA Polisher (Tool-Only) This is one terrific polisher. There are so many things to like. First is its a Milwaukee. The engineering and design are what you would expect from Milwaukee. I have owned and used a number of orbital polishers and rotary buffers. This tool is better designed than any that I have used. Whenever you use one of these tools you always lay it down on its back to keep the polishing pad out of dirt and debris, the back of this tool has soft rubber pads that will prevent it from damaging surfaces and keep it from sliding. The trigger is large and easy to pull, there is a lock so you don’t have to continuously hold it, the trigger is also variable speed and the maximum speed can be set by the speed adjuster. The speed adjuster is perfect, it is placed on top of the tool, easy to reach with your thumb without releasing the tool, it is large and easy to rotate. It offers 8 different speeds. The battery sits in the tool sideways helping to prevent hitting the surfaces you are working on. The backing plate is 6 inches allowing it to use my current pads. This is a large tool, it is quite a bit longer than my current orbital tool, it is about the same size as my buffer. With a 5.0 amp battery it weighs about 7 lbs, almost two pounds more than my current tool but you don’t have to deal with the cord. I really like this polisher and look forward to many years of use. Pros: It’s a Milwaukee Terrifically designed Quality tool Cons: Weight
