Questions & Answers

Can this be left installed year round?

Answer This Question

Hello Jill, We highly recommend removing the dock in Winter. This is to prevent large chunks of ice pushing against the dock during the Spring thaw. The ice can literally weigh tons, and has a tendency to crush everything in its path. If the ice is only an inch thick, then it is not as much of a concern. Please see the photo on our Multinautic.com website under the heading Resources...Winter Storage. If you cannot find it, please call us at 1-800-585-1237, ext. 218.

          Good enough for now
Once again HD is pressuring me to write a review even though the assembly and installation is not done. So here it is. ----- What you see in the photos is just using the materials supplied with the kit, not any lumber for the beams and planking. I assembled it and temporarily installed it at my seawall in Florida. I am pretty sure the posts and feet will not last for more than one year here in the salt water. ------ But this is not the planned use for this product. I plan to use it as a gangway to a larger floating dock. I will use the hinges to attach it to the seawall and will add rollers/wheels at the other end to allow it to track the floating dock. The pipes and feet will not be used as directed but the pipes will be attached to the corner tubes and be used as supports for handrails. ------- It took me about an hour to assemble what you see by myself. The fit was very good and the holes lined up adequately and required no extra drilling. I suggest putting all bolts and nuts into place before tightening anything. Make sure the dock is parallel on the sides before tightening also. I suggest applying a generous coating of grease to the set screws for the posts so that they may be adjusted much later if needed. The set screws will soon rust and lock in place otherwise. ------- I plan to use pressure treated pine decking 5/4" x 6" x 10'(-) as, other than cypress, it is the only lumber available in any quantity here.

          Amazing sturdy dock
I was so excited over this stationary dock. Although assembly was required (& thus another project for completion on the “honey do” list), it meant assembly vs. entire build of the dock we long wanted (and had planned) for our pond. This dock will be primarily used to fish & jump from. The occasional canoe, john boat, or kayak will be tied to it but nothing motorized. It’s well machined, aluminum frame, pieces fit well together. Hence, it went together easily with stainless steel nuts & bolts provided (note: there was at least 1 extra of each nut/bolt/washer sent for assembly – how refreshing!). All of its aluminum components are very sturdy & well made. The posts and base plates work adequately in our clay bottomed pond. This kit did not include decking materials, which gave us the flexibility to put what we wanted on. Measuring & drilling is required to affix the decking properly but the guide (pg6) tells required materials & how to property install. The Assembly & Installation Guide was very thorough, easy to follow, showed the hardware, provided both – sketches & photographs for each step, explained in detail the installation types, & went over various configurations…kudos to MultiNautic, well done & we mean this! We expect this dock to last forever with how well it’s made.

A bare dock, you add your own decking.
This is a versatile dock in that it can be placed on floats or attached to other docs from Multinautic as needed. Assembly went smoothly, we used 7/16 and 9/16 wrenches, taking my son and I just under 2 hours to assemble the dock. The instructions are nicely printed in color and are presented in English and French. No missing parts, and a few spare bolts were provided. The long sections are joined together with a stainless steel plate and 12 bolts. Everything else is made from single pieces. Essentially it is an aluminum frame that is 5’ wide (outside width) and 9’7” long (outside length). There are two braces that run across the width. There is a lip around the edge that will take a standard decking plank. In addition, it comes with two poles with feet and caps, plus two hinges that allow it to be connected to another dock. The legs are steel poles that fit through nice extruded aluminum blocks on the corners. They are held in place with nice stainless steel set screws that use a ¼” hex wrench to tighten. The nuts and bolts are a mixture of stainless steel, and galvanized. All have lock washers too. The space for the decking is 56½” so you won’t get two planks from an 8’ piece of decking. 10’ pieces would be better. There is no longitudinal support for the decking so you will also need additional 2x4 lumber (girts) along the length of the dock to support the decking. You will need a 2x4 8’ stud and a 10’ stud to build the central support along the length of the dock. These get permanently attached to the dock adding weight even without the actual decking. This should be part of the aluminum dock in my opinion. Once you have completed the construction of the dock you need to add decking. That calls for 20x 6’ decking planks and another three 10’ 2x4s, and a bunch of screws, etc. The instructions suggest that one can buy a cedar decking (kit #21178) but I cannot find it for sale. I need to remove the dock from the water every year so I plan on making more manageable size dock panels than the ones they suggest (pressure treated wood is heavy). Perhaps 6 x 1’6” pieces and one 1’ piece. Made in Vietnam.

          Hello Dale,

Thank you for having taken the time to write your detailed review.
As you mentioned, since this is a 5-foot wide dock, 10-foot boards would be a better choice to cut without losing excess lumber. In terms of the decking weight, we recommend cedar, not pressure-treated wood. The resulting decking should weigh about 55 pounds total for a 5 x 10 foot dock. If you wish, you can make 2, 3 or even 4 smaller panels to make the weiht even more manageable. On the same topic, we offer complete dock kits including the cedar decking on HomeDepot.Com which includes the aluminum dock, the floats (or posts if it is a Fixed dock), and cedar decking. multionline
          Incredible Quality, Modularity, Configurability
We're finishing this dock, but stayed with the native components...and it's worked amazingly well! We leveraged its modularity to build out a configuration to meet exactly what we spec'd. Home Depot is a distributor for Multinautic, but the suppoirt from the manufacturer has been amazing...parts questions, advise, how to handle currents, etc...top notch expertise at the ready!

            Hello,
Thanks for the 5 stars. We are happy it meets with your expectations.
This is the correct starting section for a dock system whereby you start with a Stationary dock, then a Semi-Floating dock, and finally a Floating section. It can also be used alone as a Stationary dock. Please contact us at 800-585-1237, ext. 218 or Info@Multinautic.Com if you have any questions.
            Sincerely,. multionline
