Does the flame heat up the Stone or does the flame come from the top down on top of the pizza?

    Answer This Question

Hello CindyM, thank you for reaching out. The Dyna-Glo 12 in. Portable Propane Gas Outdoor Pizza Oven is designed so that the flame heats the pizza stone from below, allowing the stone to evenly cook the crust while the heat circulates throughout the oven to finish baking the toppings. Should you need any additional information, please feel free to contact our customer service team at 877-447-4768 or customerservice@ghpgroupinc.com . We’ll be happy to assist you. Painful to turn on, does not hold flame long enough to cook
Bought one for a pizza party on the weekend. It was a struggle to turn it on, even after holding the ignition for 15+ seconds as indicated. Then the flame would go out after about 5 minutes. Spent another 2-3 minutes trying to turn it on again, and once it did the flame would again go out. I had this happen about 6 times, and the oven would not hold the flame for longer than 5 minutes. Freaking out, because I had guests waiting on me, I quickly drove to Home Depot and bought another one. This one turned on first try (still had to hold ignition for 15+ seconds, for some reason), and held the flame for about 30 minutes before I had to re-ignite. There was no wind that day, and I was using a known good propane tank that I knew was full. These things are garbage, and I ended up returning both the next morning. 2 stars because at least Home Depot has a good return policy

          Changing the homemade pizza game
Got this as a birthday present and really changes the pizza game The biggest issue I had was keeping it lit it was lightly windy but once the pizza was in it stayed lit the rest of the 4 pizzas. It fit the pizza no problem easily unboxed with little to do building it. It fits in a tidy little carrying case to be stored away safely. Once I get the hang of the flame my pizzas won't come out chard around the edges but that's on me

            Great portable pizza oven
I’d been eyeing a pizza oven for a while and happily picked up the Dyna‑Glo 12‑in. Portable Propane Gas Outdoor Pizza Oven in black (it comes with a case, pizza peel, and cutter). For the price, it’s a great deal—especially if you want the convenience of propane and the freedom to take it anywhere. In my case, Its easy to store afterwards. Fair warning: there’s a learning curve. I ended up making 12 personal pizzas in one evening and had it down to a science by pizza #3. The first one was a disaster—the breeze blew out the flame, so the stone never got hot. Tip: *double‑check the flame after preheating* and again before building your pizza on the peel. A properly heated stone makes all the difference. This is key. Once the stone was nice and toasty (for me 550 degrees), the pizzas turned out great, and my family raved about them. I haven’t cleaned the oven yet, but the removable stone should make it easier. Handle that stone gently—it cracked on the edge when the peel barely tapped it around pizza #4, so I hope replacements are available. Overall, this oven is a terrific buy for summer pizza‑party gatherings. I also recommend picking up metal pizza screens; a friend uses them for smoother launches, letting you prep multiple pies while reusing the peel. The pizza cutter that comes with the oven is also amazing!!! Cuts the pizzas with ease.

            Nice Portable Pizza Oven
This oven is perfect for the two of us. We have used it in our travel trailer when camping and we really enjoy it. It attaches to a 10 Lb propane tank on the trailer making it handy. It also came with a pizza peel and slicer. Both are good quality. The legs fold making it easy to store. I would like to see them just a little more sturdy and lock in the open position. Additionally an improvement would be to bring the propane out a side instead of on the bottom. The connection protrudes and could be damaged if bumped.

            Must have for camping
This is truly a portable pizza oven. I was a little iffy on the feet getting hot but actually didn't which seems safe to use on table. I let it run for about 700 degrees for about 45 mind before use to sear it. Cooked my pizza in about 2 mins or less in 700 degrees. It gave it a really good taste almost like if I was using wood. Only real issue I had was putting it in and turning it around every 15secs or so to evenly cook. It's super tight almost near no space inside the oven but it makes since so that it distributes and keeps same temp all around. You do need to turn its as you can tell the hottest spot was in the back near flame. Cooled down pretty quick and was easy to clean stone and repack in it's own carrying bag. I would highly recommend this product for camping or possibly those hot summers days to cook outside to avoid getting the house hot.

Well-made Oven Easy to Take to Parties or Camping
I have wanted a pizza oven like this forever, but the ones I have looked at in the past required a dedicated counter space, or were just too big and bulky. The Dyna Glo is a medium sized portable oven, with solid metal folding legs and a nylon carry bag All of the metal components feel very solid and have nice finishes. Included accessories include a metal pizza peel (very important), a pizza cutter and removable pizza stone. But be prepared to practice a few times before you think you can consistently make pizza for your guests. The user manual describes how the process works: You use the peel to "launch" your uncooked pizza into the oven, after preheating for 20 minutes. Total cook time is only 1-2 minutes, and you have to scoop up and rotate your pizza several times while it's cooking, because the oven is much hotter in the back than in the front. My first attempt was a mess, I think because I tried to make too large a pizza and the dough was not as firm as it should have been. Next time I'll try a smaller pizza, the stone is 12" wide but I'm going to try an 8" or 9" pizza so it will rotate more easily. Nice appliance, but requires some practice.

Great storable and portable little pizza oven
I will admit, this is my first at home pizza oven, but I can also say it has surpassed my hopes and works great! This is a nice little oven that runs on your gas grills propane tank. I quickly set it up by simply raising the four legs and adding the pizza stone. I then connected the provided long hose to the tank under my grill and put the pizza oven a few feet away on a small table. I read a few reviews that said their oven would only get to 500 degrees, but that was enough to do a pizza, I did not find this to be true in my situation. I was able to get the oven to around 650 with it on approximately the medium setting. Setting it too high did not raise the temperature anymore and made the flames quite large, but I believe not ideal for the design of the oven. Ultimately I lowered the flames to be just above the back flame plate and got the oven to about 560-580 during our cooking porcess. We used a simple dough recipe meant for a different brand of oven we found online and it worked great. The pizzas all cooked in about 4-5 minutes because in our situation we found we had to keep the pizza sligtly closer to the opening for the first 2+ minutes so that the back crust would not burn before the middle of the pizza dough cooked. I would rotate the pizza 180 degrees after 1 minute. After I felt the crust was firming (but not darkening) and the cheese was melted I would then push the pizza back toward the back to get the final darkening on the crust and toppings. For this step I typically did about 20-30 seconds and then rotated 90 degrees until all sides were done. My family all loved the pizza and thought it was great compared to our normal home made oven pizzas. I can't wait to try it again and to tryout a frozen pizza to see how it goes. A couple tips that we will adjust on our next pizza... Get the pizza dough thin in the middle if you want to be able to cook these quickly. Ours were about 1/4 inch and this is what slowed our process down. Ours were a little thick so the first pizza that only took 2 minutes (farther back in the oven) had dark crust and toppings, but the interior dough was undercooked due to the thickness. Next time we will try for the middle crust being closer to 1/8 inch. If your dough is too thick, I was able to put the pizza back in (partially cut) and finish it off in the middle/front of the oven. To prevent this on the other pizzas I followed the steps I detailed in the main review. For our dough and toppings 560-580 was a good temp range, but you can move the pizza farther back for quicker cooking and closer for slower. You MUST rotate the pizza for even cooking. Flour your pizza peel fairly heavily. Also, we made our pizzas on parchment paper to help with transfer to the peel, but even that needed much more flour underneath so it wouldn't stick to the parchment. Flour or corn meal is your friend to prevent sticking!

            A must have!
The coolest thing I never knew I needed! I typically smoke my pizzas, but it never gives me the parlor quality and finish I want. This portable pizza oven is fantastic. Just hook up the propane tank, turn it on and let the knob ignite the flame and away you go. The oven heats up quickly, getting to temp in about 8-10 minutes. Slide the pizza onto the stone, and use the provided tools to rotate the pizza while it’s cooking every 30 seconds or so, that way it cooks evenly. Make sure you use fresh dough, or defrost the frozen pizza completely! This oven give the pizza the perfect cook and finish!

            10/10 would recommend!
This Dyna-Glo pizza oven surpassed our expectations! It is more affordable than some of the others on the market, but it truly gets the job done. Not gonna lie—making pizza in a pizza oven isn’t perfect on the first try. And that goes for all pizza ovens. It takes a little practice and skill, but it’s a rewarding dinner-making experience! Once we (and by "we," I mean my husband) got the hang of sliding in the pizza, swiftly getting it off the peel and onto the pizza stone, we kept rotating it every 15 seconds until it was evenly cooked. Keep an eye on the side of the pizza at the back of the oven, as that part cooks the fastest. This Dyna-Glo portable pizza oven comes nicely packed and well-packaged. It includes a carry bag, a pizza peel, and a generously sized pizza cutter. It's super easy to set up and was ready to fire up in seconds. You do need a AA battery—so if you have to go searching for one, that will add a bit of time to your setup! One thing I wish we had thought to buy is a heat mat to put underneath it. According to the instructions, they recommend using it on a concrete or stone surface, which we don’t have in our backyard. It didn’t damage our IKEA laminate table, but it’s really at your own risk if you don’t follow the manufacturer’s instructions. We’ll be picking one up before our next pizza party. Speaking of next time, I just saw they have a pizza recipe under "Project Ideas" in the additional resources section. Definitely going to try that one!

              Easy and Great Pizza Results
There was no assembly required and this pizza oven came ready to go. All you need is a propane tank. It came with a pizza peel (a critical tool) as well as a pizza cutter. With each pizza we make, we’re getting better at cooking it just right. The oven cooks up the pizza fast on the pizza stone and the high heat gives the crust the brick oven taste. Our family has their individual pies ready and we just put them in one after another. It moves very quickly. The description says the oven reaches temperatures over 900 degrees but we have only seen it approach 700 degrees, which has produced good pizza. The only design feature I wish we could change is that the knob to adjust the size of the flame is too far back to be able to look at the flame as you adjust it. It would be easier to have it within arms reach and watch the flame change as you are adjusting the knob to get it just right instead of going back and forth.
