Is this plant the Assamica version which is more tropical
This is Camellia sinensis Green Tea
My tea plant dropped all of its leaves the day after I received it in the mail and some of the stems turned brown. Is it dead?
It's normal
It's unlikely your plant is dead, however it could've experienced stress during the shipping process. You can scratch the outer bark of the stem, if its green then it's still alive and if its brown it's possible that the plant is dead. Is that a dwarf variety of camellia sinensis? The description lists a mature size of about just one feet tall and wide. Is that correct?

What pot size would you need for the plant to continue maturing properly?

In the California desert it’s 100°F everyday now. I am intending to keep in a pot. Should I repot to a larger pot? Is it too hot here to keep outside? Will this grow indoors near a bright window. Help please
Hi DesertDweller, thanks for reaching out! This plant can tolerate heat and sun better than other varieties, but you should keep an eye on it for things like wilting and sun scald. If either occur, you can try moving the container to an area that is shaded in the afternoons, which will protect the plant from the harshest sun. If you water adequately, it should be fine. You will need to repot the plant occasionally so that it does not become root bound and choke itself out. You can try to grow indoors, but it would need to be within one foot of an east or south facing window to have the best chances and new growth may be limited. I understand that this plant is a Camellia sinensis, but what cultivar is it? e.g., PH1 (Camellia sinensis var assamica), TRI 777 (Camellia sinensis var pubilimba), etc.
Your official answer here, apparently from the growers, is not cutting the mustard. There are many sub varieties, but only 2 major ones, and if it is Camelia Sinensis assamica that is the more tropical, less cold hardy variety. Please tell us which one

Hi Mary, thanks so much for reaching out! This plant requires bright light when kept indoors, so a southern facing window would be preferred. If that isn't available, you can compensate with grow lights. Water when the soil is dry to the touch. Pot in well draining soil. Fertilize (if needed) once each spring.
