I assume that "hickey" adapter that you refer to is that metal bracket attached to the socket. It is a means of mounting the standard Edison based socket to a 1/8-27 threaded tube. That tube is used to route the wires up from the floor or table lamp base to the socket as well as to support the socket mechanically. Hope this helps.

No, that fixture does not have a ground. Typically, that goes onto a lamp that has plugs using an ungrounded "zip cord". Therefore the whole lamp is ungrounded. The proper way to wire this fixture is to wire the neutral wire to the white (tin) screw and the hot wire to the brass screw. Zip cord has a nearly invisible strip on it you can use to distinguish the two conductors. Use the striped side for the white screw. On the other end, connect the striped wire to the wider plug. This will put the outside part of the bulb socket on the neutral end.

It does not have a ground wire. I ground the light fixture to the incoming bare ground wire. The hickey is attached to the fixture.

This is a replacement socket and the ground wire should be on the fixture, not on the socket.

yeah no, this has a neutral and a hot. the ground would go to the chassis of the fixture it would be in. a ground can also connect to the neutral but is dependant on your local code and normally applies to the breaker box.

I don't know about all outside lights. I have used it on my outside fixtures. It works well and is very durable. Withstands heat from the bulbs much better than a plastic socket.

Definitely NO, unless it is enclosed in a water proof fixture. If the fixture is water proof and properly grounded this will replace a plastic socket nicely.
