How does the ionizer work? Does it remove odors? The description says the ionizer is optional. Do you have to buy an ionizer attachment?

    Answer This Question

Hello Jude, thank you for your question about our Midea 50 pt. Cube Smart Dehumidifier. Ionizers use negative ions to remove small particles in the air, but they do not eliminate odors. No, you do not need to purchase any separate ionizer attachments. For this unit, the ionizer is fully built into the unit from the factory. Have a great day! Midea Customer Support.

In our basement we have gas hot water tank and furnace. How far away does this dehumidifier have to be placed from these because of flammability?

There are sticky rubber mounts inside the bucket portion of this unit. Some detached during shipping. Are they part of the vibration isolation of this unit or only for shipping? They make the unit a little wobbly when sitting on top is why I ask.

I am trying to see if I can connect the included 3/4 inch drain hose to my HVAC condensate pump. When using the included drain hose, how do I ensure that it will drain slowly over time and not in one big flood when the container is completely filled?

              Answer This Question

Hello Hope, thank you for your question about our Midea 50 pt. Cube Smart Dehumidifier. No, you cannot connect the 3/4-inch gravity/garden drain hose directly to an HVAC condensate pump, as it is designed for gravity-based continuous drainage. It does not hold back water to prevent flooding; instead, it provides steady, continuous drainage as water is pulled from the air, provided the hose slopes downward without any upward loops. Have a great day! Midea Customer Support.

I was running a test with the Midea Cube dehumidifier vs. an old GE portable ac/dehumidifier unit. Over the course of one month in real work conditions. My basement was pretty humid - starting around 80% RH. Initial testing was a continuous cycle with the Midea Cube just running constantly to extract as much moisture as possible to get the humidity level down. The unit is near a floor drain and i used the built in drain hose to let it drip into the floor drain. I had 3 separate remote humidity/temperature sensors in separate zones in the basement. At the most recent measurement, the remote zones are reading 57%, 58%, 51% Relative Humidity levels - with the lowest zone nearest the Midea. The unit has removed 9 gallons and 100 ounces of water during the test. The unit definitely can pull a substantial amount of moisture from the area. For the latter portion of the test, i set the moisture level at 40% RH and this has seem to stabilize my basement moisture level in both the immediate and remote zones. I am in upstate NY so we do get periods of high humidity and precipitation here. I am pretty happy with the performance of the Midea Cube. Performance aside, impressive as it is, the design of the unit with its nesting bucket and hefty handles makes this a remarkably well designed unit. Initially I bought this for it's enormous bucket capacity, and still think this is the best design for water collection if one goes that route. I am currently just running the drain hose into the floor right now but do have the option of using the bucket or even the buit in pump if needed in the future. Would I recommend this unit - absolutely. My test confirms this unit can extract an enormous about of water while only raising the temperature of the basement by a few degrees F. The one weakness of this unit is the built in humidity sensor. It is too local of a measurement point to be effective when looking at whole basement humidty levels. If the unit were to come with a few remote sensors - that would complete the picture to more accurately measuring a space's overall humidty levels.

                    Don’t buy this brand
Don’t look for this on the app. Not an option and you will waste as much time as you can to avoid throwing this back in the box to drive it back and try again. You will ultimately have to, so the time choice is your call.

is Midea dehumidifier works really well for keeping moisture under control. The built-in pump works great and handles draining automatically, so you never have to deal with pulling out and emptying a heavy water bucket. The overall design also makes a lot of sense for storage. When you don't need to use it, the main unit fits right inside the water tank so it takes up much less space in a closet or basement. It runs quietly, does its job reliably, and is just a simple, practical machine.

Removes moisture efficiently, but gauge says that the percentage is about 10% lower than it actually is in the room. Also, rating would be higher if the base was a bit thicker plastic/more rigid, because tends to fall off the internal supports as frame bows slightly. I fixed the problem by adding a ratchet strap to hold it together. Lastly, although the phone app is useful, I haven’t gotten it to accurately indicate the fullness of the tank.

I had two GEs in the past. Each one lasted about a year. I just got this one a few weeks ago. It seems to work great; I like the design, and setup was easy. I hope I can get longer than a year with this one.

Sensor Broken, Runs Hot - No Return - Unhappy Customer
I bought this and it was delivered about two weeks ago. When I set it up a few days ago, the humidity gauge was clearly not accurate. My gauge said 62, it said 36. I went ahead and ran it to see if it would unstick. It did not. I have two different dehumidifiers in different areas of the house, and they removed water without overheating the room. This one runs so hot, I had to turn it off because it was fighting the air conditioning. Home depot only accepts returns on UNUSED dehumidifiers and only within 7 days. MIDEA customer service wants me to get this to a MIDEA approved technician for repair of the sensor and they said that it is supposed to run that hot...so too bad so sad. It does take water out of the air, for now. That's why I gave it a 2 start but my guess is that this will completely break down just after the warranty. It appears, like so many, I am stuck with a paperweight. FREECYCLE Anyone? Moral of the story, read the fine print, Home Depot doesn't support its customers and there is a reason this was on sale....it is a substandard product.

Another bad humidity reading spoils design
I was hoping maybe I could escape the curse of the bad hygrometers, but I didn't. The reading is about 22%-24% too low which means you can't maintain a humidity level below about 55+% (35% minimum setting + error). It seems like a decent design if you want something you'll be running constantly, but I don't, so unless their email support team pulls a rabbit out of their hat (request number 998052 already sent), I expect it will be heading back to Home Depot as defective.
