          Unable to get accurate reading
Tried to test paint on an old dresser we were looking to refinish. Got no color n the swab so wanted to confirm on the test strip. It did not turn red as indicated in directions. Watched the video and they show the test strip turning dark red instantly. Tried the other swab in the package and got the same thing. Figured it was my fault, maybe we took longer than the 90 seconds? Went to store and got another test kit and got the same results. Very dissatisfying that four swabs and not one of them turned the test strip red. Took it back to the store for a refund.

Neither of the two tests worked! Waste of money!
Followed the directions to a T and tested immediately after activating. First tube wetted the swab, but the liquid was clear, not yellow, and when I applied it to the test card, no color appeared at all. Second test at least turned yellow, rubbed it onto the testing field with no pink/red result. Verified the second swab with the test card with no pink/red color change, which proves another invalid test! So here I am having wasted money and still unsure if the paint has lead in it!

really works, epa approved, but expensive and wastes a lot of reagent
I found out that all you need is a drop, but the way its dispensed here you'll use up most of the stuff on just one item, with test chemical spilling all over the place. Once positive the white brush it comes with is spent as its discolored but the liquid can still be used. After experimenting with 2 vials, I found pulling the white brush out after crushing the vials, keep the vial face down as it can leak from the bottom end, and pour contents into a small plastic test tube, rub the test surface with the virgin white brush to abrade it a bit, but used a toothpick dipped into the solution to paint over the rubbed area with small amounts of reagent. I could extend one vial to over 20 items. I used a tooth pick to put a tiny drop on the test card to insure it worked as a control, and compared the color against the plastic test tube and toothpick, in case it had lead in it too. Both were negative. The reagent leaves a yellowish stain on anything its been painted, so its easy to see negative. My known leaded glassware were positive, although I never tested it ever to see if it leeched, which you can see a reddish color change on the glass itself without looking at the applicator brush which is quite different from the yellowish stain of a negative test.

            Lots of duds
I just used these on several areas of my house. No liquid came out of three of the swabs, no matter how much I squeezed them. A fourth swab did not react much on the confirmation card. It's better than nothing but frustrating to pay a pretty penny for 8 swabs and get only 4-5 that seem to work.

              Worked.
We are living in and renovating a home from 1901. I saw this strange paint as I was redoing the trim and thank god I tested it. See pics for what a positive looks like is red and pink.

                1/2 worked sorta.
I bought these as I am stripping and old wood floor the was painted who knows when under 4 layers of old linoleum and tile. I was afraid of lead contamination with kids in the house so I gave these a go. I had two problems that made these. They were basically a waste of money and will just assume there is lead moving forward. They were dry! I broke the A and B portions as directed and nothing. I did get one that was a little moist. I saw a faint bit of yellow so I worked at a bit more. I waited hoping it would wick into the end but it didn’t much even pointing it downward and working it down. My second issue is the the floor was reddish brown so yes it turned a reddish orange/brown. My mop water did too though so I have no idea. It wasn’t a bright obvious red so I have no idea really. I did wait a little then tried swabbing the control strip. It did turn dirty red grinding it into it to get enough moisture. Buy a bunch (like a case) and expect a few to possibly work. Save your receipt and return what didn’t work or that you didn’t need. It’s really too bad as this seems like an easy solution and it’s not something to mess with especially with kids it the home. I hoped for more definitive results.

I used this product on my ceiling and, while using it, the liquid dripped down onto my rug and completely discolored it or bleached it and the stain will not come out. Warning

                  Red means Lead!
This lead test gave me peace of mind for my latest project. I'm really glad I didn't have to wait to get results back from a lab before starting too! I had picked up an old wooden window on Craigslist to turn into a foyer mirror, and I wanted to sand the paint and gunk off of it. Since I had no idea how old it was or where it came from, I figured it would be best to test it for lead. This kit was the perfect solution for an immediate answer. The kit comes with two testing sticks, instructions, and a test card to verify the sticks are functioning correctly in the event your test sample doesn't contain any lead. The directions were easy to follow. Just crush the two capsules, shake it up, and rub it on the test sample. The negative test result is a yellow-orange color. The color changes to a pink-red for a positive indication. Luckily my project didn't contain any lead paint, and I could check to make sure the test was functioning correctly with the included verification card. I'm not sure how some other reviewers were reporting the tests were dried up. The liquid is stored in sealed capsules that are fairly tough to break.

                  Very Clever
Easy to follow instructions , Passed the test on each painted surface. Had to do a little extra squeezing. To get it to work correctly , and did get the dye on my fingers. So I will have orange fingers for a few days. Feel relieved knowing the paint is lead free :)
