Q:Is this good to patch around the fitting of a pvc garden sprinkler?
    by|Apr 2, 2024
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  Red Hot Blue Glue is a solvent cement for PVC pipe and fittings. It is not intended (nor recommended) to "glue" a sprinkler directly to a fitting. Instead, use a threaded fitting with PTFE tape between the sprinkler and PVC fitting.

        One Time application NO MIXING
Used for Cameras. got the larger and smaller cans... my workers made more spill wastes! No need to mix, Just have to apply generously on conduit tip and stink in place. 1min -2min fastening time.

I will probably not buy this product again. I have installed systems with the clear cement and with this. It's not that it leaks. BUT: *It drips -- a LOT *Unlike the clear cement, the drips are dark blue. This cement leaves unsightly marks on my work wherever it drips *I like my valves and joints to line up perfectly, and when doing more than one joint at a time, this cement often sets before I have time to align all my parts perfectly *It is so thick that it piles up inside the pipes. I use the recommended primer and the applicators in the cans. When I look down the pipe at the inside of my joint and I can see buildup where the cement has been 'plowed' up by the pipe as it slides into the fitting. Seems like this would impede flow....that is, until the chunk of cured cement breaks off and moves down tube to clog a valve or spray nozzle

            This stuff is great!
We bought a house that has a little bit of age (just after WWII built). The lawn sprinklers were old and fatigued and were easy to break if digging to close. The PVC pipe that is installed is the old blue thin wall type which I do not think is made anymore. Long story short, when I would dig a hole and the PVC pipe would break, I would gather my PVC repair tools, which included this glue to make the repairs. The glue is fast drying, easy to apply and seals joints as if they were melted together. In general practice, I would cut bad pipe, sand ends about an inch, then apply the glue and connect the new part to the old part. I would hold the part in place for about 30 seconds and lightly give it a twist to check the bond. After about 5 to 10 minutes, I would turn on the sprinkler valve to check for leaks. So far, I have been very lucky not to have any leaks occur after a repair. At the time of this post, this would be my 6th repair with the sprinkler PVC pipe using this blue glue. And I can say honestly, the glue works. Read the instructions, go to youtube, watch a video. If this glue is applied correctly, then it will work. I bought another can of blue glue because I know this will not be the last time I will need to repair the sprinkler system. Sincerely, an honest homeowner.
