Questions & Answers

Is the conduit good for exterior use? We have an exterior light that we want to tap into this connection and run around the corner of the building to add a 2nd light fixture. Of course we would add a 2nd junction box. Thanks!

Answer This Question

1/2 x 25 ft. Flexible Aluminum Conduit. The National Electric Code Article 348 regulates how and where flexible conduit can be used. The code does not distinguish between interior and exterior, but between wet and dry locations. The code does not allow flexible conduit to be used in a wet location. A wet location in this instance would be defined as an area subject to saturation with water or in unprotected areas subject to weather.

it says "Suitable for exposed and concealed locations use". So then in NYC is it OK to run along the surface of a wall or ceiling of my basement, assuming it's not in a place where it can be easily damaged?

        1 Answer |
        Answer This Question

Yes per the NEC code 350 . Suitable for wet location and connections for cabinets and wire outlets. Product must be secured 10" from box then every 18" per code.

Hello Lox, I’m Chris from the Home Depot’s how-to Community. Thank you for your question. You would use ½” flexible metal conduit connectors. These are common and easy to find. I am not sure what you mean by “standard” fittings, but connectors for thin metal emt conduit or ridged conduit will not work. I hope this helps, Chris. .

Bend the flex by hand, it will separate, use some standard diagonal wire cutters or tin snips. I've used that method for years

There are two options for cutting flex conduit. You can use a hacksaw, but be sure to file any sharp edges so you do not knick the building wire when fishing through the armor. The second option is using a cable cutter and I attached two cutters that Home Depot stocks: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Klein-Tools-BX-and-Armored-Cable-Cutter-53725/203872308 http://www.homedepot.com/p/Ideal-Sir-Nickless-Armored-Cable-Cutter-35-782/203761573?MERCH=REC-_-NavPLPHorizontal1_rr-_-NA-_-203761573-_-N

I use a vise and reciprocating saw. Works well.

We would recommend that you check the NEC Code for your area or with your local inspector, as codes and stadard vary by region in the Unisted States. Thank you.

Have used this product for many years and always performs as expected. Very easy to work with and gets the job done. Only dislike is that sometimes the product comes with an excess of oily grunge that will stick to you hands nicely.
