It seems these are covered in an oil or lubricant. What is this? (Just considering safety and toxicity)

Thanks for the inquiry. A lubricant is applied to the spring and fastener joints to improve functionality during the production process.

Is this weather/water resistant? Will it rust outdoors in the rain?

                Answer This Question

This item is coated with nickel and as long as the nickel is intact, there should not be any rust. However, when the nickel is scratched through to the steel, rust can form.

Yes, they will rust. Not quite as quickly as plain, uncoated steel, but they are not as rust resistant as stainless steel clamps would be.

They are 60 cents a piece. Lower your expectations, avoid disappointment.

A solid build spring clamp at a very reasonable price. I would recommend to anyone looking for a basic spring clamp

These clamps work perfectly for my project. I needed a small size for tight spaces and these fit the bill. The price was very affordable.

Will stain your wood if they are too new!
I cut and mocked up enough oak plywood sides/tops/bottoms to build the cases for two 40”W X 100”H bookshelf units. Clamped the pieces together with Anvil 2-inch clamps to see how they would look and let me double check measurements for face frames. Have used spring clamps for this purpose many times over the years, but not those from Anvil. Since I needed so many this time, I bought 30 new Anvil spring clamps. Anyway, I left the clamps on while working the face frame lumber. Next day, I was getting ready to drill holes in the sides for shelf pins, and noticed what looked like an oily mark on the veneer. Oh, well, just rotated the side piece around to put it mostly out-of-sight and saw another “stain”. Oh oh. Every place I put a spring clamp was stained (see photos). No way to sand it out of the thin oak veneer. Back to the item description: Online beg shows a photo of two pieces of wood clamped together along with the statement “Vinyl tips help protect work surface”. More like ruin than protect. I have photos of my own now, and they show stains every place I put these clamps. I bought a case of these things, they were new. Box had never been opened. Perhaps if it was opened, or they sat around for a few days or weeks, the “production oils” would have dissipated. But not mine – I will play with perhaps a darker stain, but more likely will wind up painting the bookcases! Just think about it…..

For a bucket piece I was really surprised at how good these were. With the winter storm that came, I wanted to give my storage space a little extra help. They seriously held on.

Used these clamps to secure plastic around the chicken coop during ice age. Worked great, but very stiff and hard to open. That also means they hold well tho.

They are fine. Dont expect a lot of holding power but they do an okay job at a cheap price. I would pay 25-50% more just for clamps like this that would have a monster spring.
