What size socket do I need to tighten and untighten these installation nuts?

Asked by Michelle September 8, 2020

Answer

Hello, the Replacement Flag kit includes M4 Hex Nuts, which means your socket will have to be as small as 7mm. You can also use a small wrench or even pliers if needed to tighten the nuts if you do not have a socket that fits the M4 nuts. Hope that helps! If not, please contact us at support@architecturalmailboxes.com!

Will this fit a Rubbermaid mailbox?

The flag and mounting bracket should fit any mailbox. The bolts that are included are short (about 1/2 inch long). I bought two 2-inch bolts for it to fit my mailbox. I don't have a Rubbermaid box. Mine is one of those all-plastic units and the box has a wide double wall so it needed longer bolts. I didn't mind having to buy the longer bolts. Many replacement parts like this may require using something a little different than the hardware provided.

I do not know if a gold one is available. I purchased the red one and installed it myself without a problem. It works great.

How does this mount?

Good question. It mounts on a small solid bar with two holes in it, which match holes in the inside of the mailbox. In turn, the flag has its own bar which is mounted through the mailbox (some mailboxes come with pre-drilled holes to match the bars - if not, you will have to drill holes).Use the provided screws and nuts to attach the two (the small bar on the inside, and the flag bar on the outside) through the holes in the mailbox. The flag itself is riveted to the outside bar, and is VERY stiff when you get it. You will need WD40 or a silicone spray lubricant to spray the flag rivet (be sure to wipe off the excess spray) and work the flag open and closed a few times to get it to work properly.

Far better and more durable than any of the plastic flags available on the market. Bright red makes it easy to see. Keep in mind that if you're mounting to a brick mailbox, it doesn't come with 3/16"in mortar screws you will need. I had to shim it with stainless steel washers to keep the flag from scraping the brick because of the way the brick was laid.

Good product. It is NOT designed to be mount on bricks, but with a little "adjustment" it can be done. You will need to drill 2 holes in the brick (best way- with a hammer drill), and 2 anchors. That is all. The construction is very solid, tick metal. Please take a look to the attached pics.

This style is perfect for attaching this to stucco or brick mailboxes. Use your own hardware (not what is included), drill two holes where the inside plate flushes to stucco or cement, insert two anchors and fasten with two screws. Took all of 5 minutes, looks great and works like a charm.

Arrived quickly, mounted to brick mailbox using my hammer drill to bore holes after marking spot. Looks to be a very durable product, certainly far better than the plastic flag it replaced. I don't expect to ever need to replace it. If it fades a quick touch up with paint should suffice.

Very sturdy and well constructed. But didn't fit the holes in my mail box well. A good dimensional drawing would have helped before purchase.
