Will this gun work with M5 rivnuts? I need to install steel rivnuts on an aluminum bicycle frame, but it looks like all the diameters mentioned here are in SAE. Will this gun take metric heads?

    Answer This Question

Hello, We do not recommend using rivnuts with this tool. The Arrow RT90P pneumatic rivet tool is designed to use Arrow aluminum, steel or stainless steel rivets in size 3/32” (2mm), 1/8” (3mm), 5/32” (4mm) and 3/16” (5mm). For best results use Arrow rivets. Hope this helps! - Your Arrow Fastener Team

As a "pop" rivet gun, the rivet stem inserts directly into the riveter. Rivnuts are usually pulled by a larger threaded adapter, which fits into a specific tool, OR they can be set, with a simple screw, washer and nut. Inserting the rivnut, with a long screw in place, hold the head of the screw, while you tighten the nut against the washer to pull and set the rivet body. If you have a threaded adapter, with a diameter of .140-.145", that will fit into the largest rivet tip of this gun (~ .155 ID). Since your M5 threads will be larger, this could only be accomplished with a small tubular spacer in place, allowing the threaded portion to pull upwards, without entering the riveter nose. The internal gripper jaws, are "one size fits all". If used for this purpose, be sure to verify a good set, as there is no "snap release point" as would be found in a pop rivet. I have no idea if you would void the warranty. If you are doing a few.. I'd recommend the basic screw/nut proceedure. If doing production work, a complete rivnut setting tool, with many adapters included, is only a few dollars more than this pop rivet gun. It will be manual, but that allows the proper set to be done, without excessive pull.. or worse distorting the threads.

They unit comes with a std male QD fitting installed (major dia .490", minor .337", shoulder to tip length ~ 1"). The riveter body had 1/4" internal tapered, NPT threads. Install your own QD if desired, with several wraps of teflon tape sealant.

Can this machine be used for riveting Purses or Jeans pockets? If so, does a person have to back it with a spacer?

              Answer This Question

I think this would be too powerful for small brass rivets. You'd be better off with a hand riveter.

              By|May 21, 2019

I am familiar with rivets used in foot wear, round grommets, and other one or two part rivets. All of those are set with the proper dies and a hammer, or a rivet squeezer (which could be a arbor press, or think fancy pliers), which both require back side access. Pop rivets, are a form of blind rivets, which have a internal stem, which is pulled by this air-powered gun, until it snaps free (and is discarded). It will not set grommets or common similar rivets.

                By|Jan 10, 2021

Im pretty sure it can handle depending on the rivet size, as far as the spacer won’t need it due to the power.

No this is for all sorts of metal.

                  By|Apr 16, 2019

Yes, you could use the RT90P Pneumatic Rivet Tool for purses and jean pockets. If hole is too large or the material too soft, you can use Arrow's 1/8-inch or 3/16-inch washers. We do recommend testing the rivet application on sample material of the same type before using on your final product. You can even use a small pancake compressor, as long as you have at least 80 lbs of pressure.

                      By|Apr 16, 2019

i have a normal 6 gallon one and it works fine. you need to dial it down to 90 PSI and it uses very little volume per stroke.

                        By|Nov 26, 2020

As long as the air pressure gets up to spec, it doesn't matter what type of air compressor you use. Pancake compressors are fine.

Hello, there. Arrow's RT90P Pneumatic Rivet Tool was designed to operate on clean, dry, regulated compressed air, at 90 psi. This rivet tool should not be connected to a system with maximum potential air pressure greater than 120 psi. It is preferable to include an air filter, pressure regulator and automatic oiler within 15 feet of this tool, if possible. For more specifics about this tool, you can read the manual here: http://bit.ly/rt90p-manual. Hello, Jessy. Yes, you can use this tool for stainless-steel rivets. The biggest difference between Arrow's RT90P Pneumatic Rivet Tool and more expensive options is the price point. This tool offers the same power-assisted rivet application at an affordable retail price. You can learn more about the tool on our website here: https://www.arrowfastener.com/tool/rt90p/. I used the Rivet tool primarily for setting 3/16 inch Stainless Steel Rivets without any problems or complications what so ever.

I did a quick test.. 50 PSI easily pulled aluminum 3/16" rivet. And 3/16" Stainless steel worked too.. but full pressure was required. How is this different? Air over hydraulic, is the common description. This is well built, but the gripper jaws are hardened steel, and quite small, and probably the most critical parts. Are they replaceable? Yes. Will a $300 riveter be better? Maybe. Or you can buy 5 or 6 of these instead. If it is a industrial application, buy the expensive one.. otherwise, these are quite well made, and works great so far!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Pneumatic power eliminates the voltages of using a manual riveter. The unique fast air relief valve quickly brings the cylinder back to perform assembly work at high speed, which prevents overloads and increases the useful life of the tool. The safety cap collects used rivets. Very useful in my English car restoration body shop
