Questions & Answers

Does this work with DEWALT XR cordless handheld router?
ByMay 20, 2023

Answer This Question

Hello Mike! The Router Guide works with routers that can accept or fit a Portercable-style guide bushing. It will be a stepped opening, with a 1-3/16" diameter hole. If not, you will need an adapter or template. For further inquiries, you can chat with us on our website (BoraTool.com) or text us at 248 588 0395. Thank you!

I have a Ryobi plunge router, and a Ryobi palm router. Would either of these work, or do I need a third fixed base router?

      Answer This Question

Hello Ryan! This Router Guide will work with a router as long as the router base will work with porter cable style guide bushings. If it doesn't fit, a universal base plate can be purchased that will fit a porter cable style bushing. I trust this helps. For further inquiries, you can chat with us on our website (BoraTool.com), send us an email to info@affinitytool.com, or call us at 248 588 0395. Thank you!

Will this work with a Ryobi corded fixed base router?

        Answer This Question

The Ryobi fixed base router would not work as is, but if you put a porter cable base plate on the fixed base instead of the one it comes with, it would work. Links are below of the base plate that would allow the router to work with the router guide. It works but only ok.
First, the bushing was oversized and did not fit my plate. It does now. There are 2 design flaws. There is a recessed gap under the plate that fills up with sawdust and binds. Just watch for it. #2: the router is held in by gravity, you should never lift the router out of the guide when its on. And as in my experiance, watch at the end of a cut when you are unsupported it happened to fall, catch the bit and get damaged as well. Its working for now but I cnat see it living much longer.

            Collet melted router base plate.
The brass collet gets extremely hot, and in turn in melted the bottom plate of my router base, as well as the jig itself. This caused the router to slide in the jig, ruining my very expensive piece of birch plywood. Now I have to pay to replace the base plate ($50) and the plywood, and I’m out the jig itself.

I haven't had a chance to use it yet, but I know it will meet or exceed my expectations

              Worked well
Worked well, was able to cut a nice straight dado. I did have to purchase a universal face plate to fit my old Craftsman router. Make sure you really tighten the two adjustment knobs otherwise it will shift and screw up the dado width.
