It's a nut, and it works. I can confirm that the size is M22-1.5, and the socket size is 32mm.
The width between 2 sides of the hex is 31.6mm. Width of the base flange is 36.6mm. The inner diameter is about 20.5mm, normal for a M22 nut. There are about 12 pitches with a height of 18mm, so 1.5mm per pitch. Total height of 19.9mm.
Appears to be made of brass-plated steel, or some similar plating, and a magnet will stick to it.
This went on a front drive axle of a 10th gen Toyota Corolla. The thinner upper lip can be staked.

I specifically asked for a m12* 1.25 axle nut and home depot sent this obviously wrong nut. Thanks for wasting my money and time.
