The supports that ship with the product are not very stable on their own. I screwed the supports to a board about a foot apart. I cut 4 strips of the reflective tape ensuring they would "dangle" from the supports. I punched a hole in each piece of tape, reinforced the holes and affixed them to the supports. The combination of the reflective tape and the constant flapping of the tape is very effective in keeping birds away. Ensure the sun hits the tape and that the pieces of tape can "flap" in the breeze. This should work for most applications.

We have baby blackbirds in our deck at this time, and the mother still needs access to them. How do I know when the best time to install Irri-Tape is so that the babies can grow and leave the nest, and the mother doesn't bring another group of eggs in to hatch?
Asked by: Butterbean
Install Irri-tape immediately after the babies grow and leave the nest. If you have access to the nest, you can place a piece of the tape right on it. This should discourage the mother from nesting there again.

Irri-Tape Bird Repellent Ribbon is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 56.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from I have used this product for about 3-4 weeks. I... I have used this product for about 3-4 weeks. I suggest one attach short strands (18"-24") to a suitable / appropriate substrate by tying the tape in a knot around the substrate. Take care not to penetrate the tape with a sharp fastener, i.e., nail, screw, staple, etc. This appears to weaken the tape by creating stress fractures that eventually tear or self-destruct during high wind conditions. If possible, avoid high wind locations in your treatment area. My best result locations are under eaves on the leeward side of the house where my patio is located and along the fence. Areas where a gentle breeze is present functions best especially when sunlight hits the tape and generates a bright flash of light. The bright flash of light and rustling sound of the tape in a gentle breeze appears to agitate / deter the presence of large black birds, pigeons and to a lesser extent doves. I plan to experiment using medium sized eye screws as suitable attachment options.

We had it two 6 foot strips hanging from the support but the strips were starting to disintegrate within a couple of weeks. Winds were gusty to as much as approximately 30 mph.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well so far I bought this product as a last hope to prevent pigeons from perching over my back wall on the wires above our property. My neighbor feeds them (illegal but city won't help) and a flock of 70+ pigeons was gathering and pooping all over everything in my yard. Nothing worked to deter them, and I'm not the type to poison animals even if was legal. I put the first strips of tape up about a 6 weeks ago along my back fence. As of today, pigeon visits have been cut to almost zero birds. I saw about a dozen come by for a visit yesterday and they didn't stay long whereas in the past they would be here from sunup til sundown. I believe the tape works because of the sound the strips of tape make as they clatter against my chain link fence combined with the reflection. There is always a breeze here so the strips are always blowing around. It also makes a lovely reflection of sparkling light in my yard. Strips + metal fence = scared pigeons.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Kept The Birds Off My Ledge We have a protected ledge above columns on my front porch. Those darned robins can build a nest in a couple of hours. Rubber snakes worked for a year or two, then the doves pushed them to the ground and the next day the doves were nesting on one side and robins the other. Hubby bought this product this spring and cut several strips, attaching with push pins above and over the ledge. Scared the birds away the first day. I saw evidence of dropped grass and twigs they were bringing to build their nest, so it scared them enough to drop their stuff. When the wind blows, the strips make a crackling sound that frightens the birds and the shiny strips catch the light and must frighten the birds as well. Worked for us!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Does not work - waste of money! We purchased this tape from another outlet but it is the same that is sold here. We installed it exactly as described in the included instructions. Then we watched the fruit tree and very soon a Mocking bird landed in the tree and ate a fig. The wind was even blowing allowing the tape to make some noise and it did not disturb the bird. It may work in other type of trees or applications but not in fruit trees. Birds are smarter than most people give them credit. This is an overpriced item that does not work at all. I also found out that the price is set by the manufacturer, so Home depot is not too blame for the expensive cost. First picture shows the bird, near the top right side, eating the fig and you can clearly see the tape in the tree. Another picture shows the bird standing on a branch in the same tree with no regard to the presence of the tape.
