This switchblade pro pipe cutter is just what I needed to work on my sprinkler system. I would try all sorts of cutting tools to make an even cut on the flexible "funny pipes" that extend from the PVC pipes in my yard. The problem was I couldn't get a straight even cut so the elbow barb I would put in it would pop out. This tool is easy to use, cuts like butter, makes a perfect cut. Makes my job so much easier now.

The first observations I made about the Switchblade Pro SB-5000 Pipe Cutter were negative ones. The handle is not spring loaded, so if you are making many cuts, you have to manually open the handle each time. Also, the cutter is not ratcheting meaning you have to continuously keep manual pressure on the cutter handles until the cut is finished. Then I tried the cutter. The handle has a smooth, easy grip surface that does not put any pressure on the hand doing the squeezing. By following the instructions and turning the cutter on the pipe, while keeping and slightly increasing the pressure as you make the cut, you get a very smooth cut that you do not have to sand afterwards. The easy blade removal process of pressing the hex bolt down and sliding the blade out and in is a great feature. Most cutters require you to remove a screw and fiddle with pieces and parts to replace the blade. And the blade is very sharp. In all fairness, because the handles have to be manually opened can also be considered a safety feature because the sharp edge of the blade is enclosed on the bottom part of the handle. This also makes the tool fit into your tool pouch or tool belt much easier and you do not have to worry about it accidentally springing open. And if I want a ratcheting cutter, I need to be willing to pay for it. After using it, the Switchblade Pro SB-5000 gets my recommendation

The SWITCHBLADE PRO PIPE CUTTER is awesome! Our home is plumbed in PEX and you need a really good pipe cutter in order to do repairs. This cutter is just the best! I had a lower quality pipe cutter in the beginning and it was just a headache! Now I can make clean, precision cuts. My first project was to replace a stop valve for the toilet. Cut thru the PEX like a hot knife thru butter! Couldn't have been any easier! One nice feature about this pipe cutter is that it can cut more than just PEX: rubber hoses, tubing, and PVC! Another great feature is that the blade is replaceable! Also the blade has a quick release feature: just push a button and it comes right out. Plumbing has never been easier! Overall I am ecstatic about this product!

Beats the rough-cut of a hacksaw! Light, compact, sharp- creates a clean (burr-less) cut- no filing necessary. Designed for cutting 1-1/2” rubber hose/ tubing/ poly pipe –or- 1-1/4” PVC (class 200/ 160). Squeeze gently and rotate cutter or pipe to establish a groove; increase grip-pressure and rotate a few times until a clean cut is achieved. Trying to use it as you would a scissor risks collapsing the pipe; snapping the pipe before completing a clean cut is not advised. Simply push the hex-button to disengage the blade- replacement blades can be purchased separately. We achieved a clean cut on 1” Sched 40 (our irrigation pipe-of-choice) but, without large hands (expansive, strong grip), 1-1/4" would be a tough operation. Or, if you’re working in a tight trench with stationary pipe (tool can’t easily be turned), you’ll need a racheted cutter. See photos for operational guidance.

I'm very pleased with the Blazing Products SB-5000 Switchblade Pro plastic pipe cutter. The blade is sharp and cuts through 3/4 inch pex pipe with ease. The handle has a comfortable grip and is easy to grip and cut. It has a quick release feature for replacing the blade by just pushing on the hex button on the side and pulling the blade forward. The cutter is bright yellow which makes it easy to see on the jobsite. Theres a nice pipe cutting guide on the back of the package. I definitely recommend the Switchblade pipe cutter for it's quality and blade changing feature.

I finally got smart and bought a pipe cutter instead of using a knife, hack saw, or miter saw to cut plastic/PVC pipe! The Blazing Switch Blade Pro, model SB-5000, is a tool designed to cut rubber hose and tubing, poly pipe up to 1 ½ inch diameter, and thinner walled PVC up to 1 1/4 in diameter. The blade is easily replaced by pushing a quick release button and sliding the old one off and the new one on. Blade is sharp and effective, making quick work out of cutting pipe. Thinner walled rubber hose is cut cleanly by rotating the handle up and down during the cutting action. PEX pipe cut with ease too! This tool cuts pipe cleanly and quickly, no deburring needed most of the time. Folds for storage, comfortable heavy plastic handle doesn’t rust. A must have tool for irrigation work!

I’m a bit disappointed with this plastic tube cutter. It does have a nice comfortable grip to it and the blade is easily removed but that’s it. The handle should in my opinion be spring loaded to reopen after each cut automatically and have a latch to keep them closed when not in use if it did have a spring. I cut a few pieces of 1 1/4 plastic sprinkler line and yes they did cut with ease but it was a pain to have to manually open after each cut. I’ll keep these as backup but I will not use them regularly

I have a big backyard and when the sprinkler system was installed, the installer made the entire backyard a single zone with rotor sprinkler heads. Two things I noticed were, the water pressure was affected and that impacted water output, second was that, the backyard had burn spots all over due to lack of adequate watering. So, I decided to add two more zones to the backyard to make it three zones and change the sprinkler heads to the regular spray heads. This required acquiring more pipes, sprinkler heads and more tools. This was a great addition to my tools as well and I needed it for cutting pipes. It was very easy to use, and also easy to switch out the blade. Just push and hold the hexagonal screw while pulling out and pushing in the blade at the same time. I love this product and will recommend it to any DIYers out there.

Very basic PVC pipe cutter. You have to hold and rotate your PVC pipe while squeezing down on the handle which may be a bit difficult if you don’t have a strong grip. This cutter does not have the same kind of ratchet action that most other cutters have to assist with the cut. I use PVC pipe cutters on various home and craft projects but this does not have a safety lock so need to be careful around kids etc.
