Can this product be used by using an end of sprayer and watering the tree? Will it kill Crepe Myrtle Bark Scale fungus?

Asked by: MisterPiano
1) It is not formulated for spraying. It is a drench. Meaning, you dilute it per the instructions and pour it into the ground (typically from a bucket) so the roots can absorb it and 'feed' it into the entire tree. 2) Crepe Myrtle Bark Scale fungus is not listed. In fact, NO fungi are listed. You'll need a different product. Perhaps your best bet will be to call Home Depot customer service of use your favorite search engine to research the topic.

Is this product similar to the Bayer Tree & Shrub Insecticide that will kill off gypsy caterpillars? Anyone tried it on an oak tree?
Asked by: Richard
This is the second year I have used this product, this time I applied the drench in early April just as my Cherry and Maple were budding - also used it on my Oaks, Crape Myrtles, Lilacs and roses. I have found very little insect infestation since using this product and I highly recommend it as a less costly version of Bayer Tree and Shrub - If you look at the main ingredient it is made by Merit the same product in Bayer.

I put this on tree about four days ago and the tree is releasing tons of sap. What is going on is this normal for your product. My tree is a pala verde. janie
Asked by: Janie
It's not the insecticide. You may have missed the opportunity to catch the borers already inside the tree. It may take a couple years for the tree to repair the damage.

1 Gal. Systemic Tree and Shrub Insect Drench is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 73.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Keeps my Green Ash tress alive! I use this to protect my large Green Ash trees from the EAB plague. I have used this for a couple of years now with GREAT success. The untreated trees in my area have been devastated, but mine look as healthy as they did before this threat became reality. To use effectively, I bore MANY holes in the ground at the base of the trees, from as close to the trunk as I can get, up to 12" away. The holes are approx. 6-8" deep each. I then mix the insecticide as recommended on the label, and pour around the base of the tree, filling the holes, and saturating the ground. I have found this method to be most effective---like I said, my trees are thriving while those around have died. I realize that going forward, the treatment of my trees using this insecticide will be an annual ritual, but it is worth it to protect my beautiful ash trees!!

(The nasty bugs have officially been in our area about 2 years.) I have been using this brand for the past 2 years now. (Used other brands the 2 years before that.) I will post updates on how the battle goes.

Could not find this in most local stores, had to order online. Shipped quickly, wrapped in bubble and bagged, boxed. No leaking, no damage. Using this in hopes of controlling scale on holly bushes, some other unknowns infesting various shrubs. Read directions, our plants were included. Systemics are harmful to polinators, yes. Our other choice is do nothing and let all the shrubs, trees slowly die from the insect issues. Previous house, we lost tons of bushes to scale from not recognizing the infestation. This brand cost much less than the big name brands, and its the same chemical. Scale is hard to control because of their waxy coating. Our next step is a horticultural oil spray in dormant season, in an attempt to reduce the next generation of scale. We applied this chemical during May, when the crawlers emerged, which are mere specks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Shortage Complaint Solved !! Ragan & Massey, the supplier of Compare-N-Save Systemic Tree Drench called me about the shortage in the gallon jug. They apologized for the short-fill and shipped me another gallon, at no charge, even though I told them it was unnecessary as it was only a quart short and still good value. The product works very well, excellent value and the supplier stepped up with great customer support.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great, definitely would recommend, but didn't include the dosage instructions I used this product last week on my 3 white ash trees that are about 12 years old. I paid to have an arborist come out and he said my trees were showing signs of having the Emerald Ash Bore. It would have cost me $235 to have him treat the trees. This product was substantially less plus I had enough left over to treat my shrubs in front of the house. One has been struggling and the other 3 were beginning to show signs of the same problem--balding spots and dying/splitting branches. Something appeared to be killing them from the inside-out. The product was easy to apply, mixing it with a gallon of water, (the concentration depends on the circumference of trees and the height of shrubs), digging a trench 6" out from the base of the trees and shrubs to expose the roots. Within 15 minutes of applying this product, I had already noticed the shrubs had begun to "perk up" a little. Within 2 days, a substantial difference was noticed, and new growth beginning to occur on the shrubs. It's too early to notice anything improvement with the trees yet--The arborist recommended it be applied before April 1st to be effective, and there are no leaves on the trees yet. Instructions say it could take up to 3 months to see results on larger trees. I'm very pleased with the results I've seen on my shrubs so far and am looking forward to seeing results on my trees. My trees were at the very beginning stages at showing signs of damage (one or two branches at the top lost leaves early last fall). One side note--the arborist said I could double the recommended concentration of product, so that's what I did to achieve my results. The only reason I gave this product 4 stars instead of 5 was because I had to locate the dosage instructions myself online. I was sent all this literature about product safety--what to do if I got it on my skin or in my eyes, notices from the EPA about not to use the product near streams, blah, blah, blah. That did me absolutely no good without the dosage instructions because I'd never a apply a product not knowing the correct concentration and amount of it to apply. The dosage instructions are not listed on the bottle.
