I don't recommended use on food. Download the label and read the application directions. This is an insect poison that ends cup in the tree sap: how much do you want to eat?

I don't see why not. I don't remember anything in the instructions for or against using fertilizer at the same time. But I would check the data sheet to make sure and also the fertilizer data sheet.

Instead of drenching can I use a sprayer? If so which sprayer would you recommend?

The objective is to apply the chemical to the soil near the plant you are treating: you pick the method. For most situations, spraying requires more time than mixing a drench and pouring. I use and recommend a simple, minimum cost 1 gallon (tank actual capacity about 1.5 gallons) plastic hand pump sprayer. Adjust the nozzle for a course spray to avoid drift of the chemical. Wash after use, add 1/2 gal of water to the tank and spray the water to flush the nozzle and nose.

will this work to treat Hemlock with wooly infestation?

Asked by RB April 23, 2020

I have used compare N Save on many trees with borers and a Hemlock with Wooly Aldegids. It works. You can't spray trees so you use a "drench". this one works in two wys: (1) it acts as a barrier to the larva which nest overwinter in the ground and climb up the tree around July (Northeast US). this is extremely effective. It also gets carried by the tree's vascular system and kills all other types of insects which destroy the leaves, needles and upper branches. This process can take several years for a very tall Hemlock. In my experience it worked so well that i have maintained my woody lot with no further damage from insects. It does not act as a fungicide, so other evergreens my not respond.

Could you please provide a step by step procedure to use the product?

Follow the directions from the manufacturer regarding how much drench to use on each particular tree. Dig a shallow trench around the tree to contain the mixture around the tree. Dilute the product in a pail of water, pour the mixture in the well around the tree and fill the well with water, to cause the mixture to soak into the root area of the tree. I find it works best using it in the Spring, so the sap will bring it up into the tree.

I tried this stuff last year for the first time and was so pleased with the results that I have already applied it again this year. I have crape myrtles that become infested with aphids every year and I was constantly battling them. After applying this I didn't have to spray once to control the aphids. It also works on my roses too...

It's hard to say. This is a back up for my Spring 2021 plans. The Spotted lanternfly and and Gypsy moths are my targets. My annual use seems to be protecting me, but I still see the Lanternfly loose in the neighborhood. If you see them, kill them! No Gypsy moth issue this year. I think it'll keep my trees and bushes protected. Time will be the judge. Just make sure you douse the plants and trees early in the season.
