Questions & Answers

Can this be used on citrus? And does it kill bees?

Can this be used on citrus? And does it kill bees?
Asked by: dlt
No it is not labeled for citrus--loquat being the exception. Here is what the label says about bees: "This product is highly toxic to bees exposed to direct treatment or residues on blooming crops/plants or weeds. DO NOT apply this product or allow it to drift to blooming crops/plants or weeds if bees are foraging the treatment area." This means do not put it on the outside of the plants like on the leaves or bark. Our instructions call for pouring the product at the base of the tree or shrub. is this product to rid hackberry trees of wooly aphids?
Asked by: cattyblond
Hi Cattyblond. The Compare-N-Save systemic tree and shrub insect drench with 1.47% Imidacloprid will work to rid your tree of aphids but it will also render the berries unusable for at least one season. Imadacloprid is derived from toxins found in tobacco and is also highly toxic to bees. Since this is a drench and it is applied to the root system, it can take days or even weeks before you will see its effect on the target insects. The active ingredient in this product is Imidacloprid which is a systemic and will be absorbed by the tree, leaves and berries. There is not sufficient information available stating how long this chemical will remain in the soil around your tree after treatment. A better and safer choice would be “Organocide” a 3-in-1 Garden Spray which will get rid of the aphids and is safe to use on edibles. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Organocide-1-Qt-Organic-Fungus-and-Pest-Control-100052354/100607913 This product, once mixed with water, is sprayed onto the leaves and insects. The active ingredient is Sesame Oil which coats the outer body of the insect thus smothering it. This product is a topical and will not be absorbed by the plant or its fruit. If sprayed in the early morning or late evening, you avoid any toxicity to bees which are active during the and early evening before the sun sets. The residual left behind is not toxic to bees, only the direct contact. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance. Rick_HD_OC

How do you dilute. What is the ratio of the concentrate to water? How much do you have to apply to the roots of Arbovitaes to get rid of Leafminers

Asked by: Angelo
Follow our labeled directions---they are easy. The amount of chemical you use is based on the size of the plant your are treating.
