Can I use this tool to remove layers of paint (about 1/8” thick) from an oak floor without damaging the floor?

Answer

Yes, you can use Eddy Floor Scraper to remove paint and glue off the floor. Please use the parquetry blade (part number 0031 - https://www.homedepot.com/p/Vinyl-and-Parquetry-Blades-3-Pack-0031/202866437) and use it bevel down, so the blade would not penetrate the sub-floor.

Does this work for ceramic tiles?

Can this unit, with the exercise be used to remove old asbestos tiles and the fiber underlay nail...

Asked by Joe February 15, 2020

Answer

This machine easily removes VCT tiles (using the blade #0031), not sure about asbestos tiles. The machine has sharp blades to cut through the coverings, not recommended for nailded down underlayment (the nails will damage the blades quickly). For glued down underlayment, please use the blade #0031 (if the substrate is concrete, the blade edge/bevel should be up and for wooden substrates the blade should be bevel down).

Answer

Yes, you can use this machine to remove parquet flooring. The blade that you need is called parquetry blade (part #0031). To strip off any material over the plywood, use the blade with bevel down (see below photo). It is recommended to approach the parquet diagonally.

Great, except a Screw that was stripped and lose
This is our 4th of 5 Scrappers and these work great. The value is average in the market. The delivery time was great. On 1 of the 4 that we purchased, there was a screw, part of the hardware that attaches a plate to the side of the machine. Poor quality control on that one. It does not effect the ability of the machine to perform it's duties though. Would buy again from Home Depot

I did not buy this but instead rented it from my local store. I loved it so much I wanted to write a review to help others. I was trying to remove 3/16" vinyl tiles that where glued down to concrete. Doing it with a hand scrapper was not working because they where bonded very well. Took me two hours to do 10 sqft by hand. I rented this unit and in 2-3 hours I had finished 600 sqft. It really worked well and I was very happy with my rental of this unit. It is back breaking work to do it by hand, due to constantly bending over.

Not for engineered wood floor glue
Rented this to remove engineered wood floor adhesive. Did not perform well at all. I think this is designed for removing vinyl flooring. The larger pro model might work better but the sales associate did not really ask what we were using it for and said that type of adhesive was very difficult to remove when we returned it. Also pay particular attention when talking to the associate, a "damage waiver" fee was added that I was not aware of (AARP hearing). I would say this whole experience was more educational than gratifying and productive.
